[MERGED] Bring back colored /me chat messages + Update the /me command to color chat messages FOR MODS/BROADCASTER ROLES ONLY
Or at least give streamers the authority to enable or disable it. But the ENTIRE point was how it stood out with color. Plain black with italics just renders it useless.
Hey all,
Thank you for the patience with us on this. This has been one of the most popular ideas on UserVoice and we definitely heard your feedback.
Today we launched /announcement for mods and streamers. Announcements can be used in chat to highlight a message and are available in 4 different colors along with the channel accent color. Because this is only part of the ask of this idea we are setting this idea to partial release so the community can continue to leave feedback on this.

twitch is like when you have a really good little pizza place that you and your family has been going to for years and then it gets sold and turned into a Papa Johns :\

I use a lot of colored / me in my Bot and in the message for when I raid someone, yesterday I was confused and didn't understand why the text was italics it was difficult to read and I'm sad to lose something that I mainly used a lot for the bot , I would like to see colored / me again available.

I concur. This is stupid. Bots could already handle misuse. This is another stupid change that NO ONE needed and serves no purpose. Why continuously make stupid decisions without thinking things out or making them with options to ENABLE streamer choice? Half-baked and rushed changes like these hurt reputation and are a detriment to the entire platform!

The text /me could be set up as bold and black as you have it now. This will make it easier for people to read. Italic isnt the best option due to people eyes and will find it hard to read.
why would Bold black Text be better?
> the bold text is much easier to read.
> using bold brings the everyone attention.
> keeping it black means that people with color blindness will be able to see it better.why is Italic text a bad idea?
> makes the unreadable
> isn't used in website as it's not get for people with eyesight issues.
> Would be out of place in the stream chat. Why is colored text a bad idea?
> Color blindnesscolor blindness is one of the most biggest issues for website and meny people arent able to see certain colors. Red, Yellow even blue is not the best idea and it more common for those color to be color blindness. orange, green and pink are in that list. that includes purple.

Italics are extremely hard to read, last night I was thrown off guard not knowing the change and got really confused why a larger chunk of text was all italic. I had to pause for a while to actually read what my bot command said. It came across blurry to begin with. It's not very inclusive for those with dyslexia and impaired vision. I'm confused why this would be changed for no reason instead of program a new command such as something else for italic text /itl for example.

no reason to remove this fun feature of chat

I'm not completely against the italics myself, and I never used either the colored text or italics, but I know a lot of streamers and chatters who enjoyed having colored text. I believe that Twitch should keep both and simply give the italics a different command to use.

If I wanted to use italics, I'd use italics. /me has been the universal emote command since the early days of IRC. Italics are hard to read for many. Not to mention its harder now to see and use bot commands especially in faster scrolling chats. Looks like an ordinary chat message now.

There are several things this change has messed up. First, I have adhd and I have literally every single one of my bot commands and timers with /me to make it easier on my brain as I skim through chat. I actually almost started crying about it on stream last night because my bot timer went off and then 2 other people did /me and you can’t tell the difference between who said what. Italics are also notoriously inaccessible to those with dyslexia or vision issues.
Second, I believe this change was made to help combat the “/me has donated...” trolls. However, I could always spot one of these trolls right away because it was always a different color than my bots. Now everyone’s text looks the same, which not only completely defeats the purpose of using /me in the first place, but I genuinely believe makes it easier for these trolls to actually make streamers think someone donated to them.
Making all /me text look the same is not the answer to anything. It has only made things worse in a multitude of ways and I urge you to reconsider this change no one asked for. What’s broken is the fact that you don’t require actual real email addresses, so people can make these throwaway accounts to troll from way too easily with literally zero consequences.

Seems odd that this was SUCH a requested feature it had to be implemented immediately, but nobody recalls it ever having been highly suggested or voted on. Now reversing it is the second most upvoted chat suggestion of all time?
From the time you notified everyone on twitter it would be italics going forward, it took the wonderful devs at FFZ exactly 27 minutes to not only make italics, or colored messages an option, but even added the option to have colored italics for those who wanted to be able to have the different font and the old color style messages. 27 minutes it took someone to use their head and consider making all users happy.

Let's all agree this was a bad idea. Roll back that change, put that idea under the rug and let's all do like nothing happened. Deal?
