[MERGED] Bring back colored /me chat messages + Update the /me command to color chat messages FOR MODS/BROADCASTER ROLES ONLY
Or at least give streamers the authority to enable or disable it. But the ENTIRE point was how it stood out with color. Plain black with italics just renders it useless.
Hey all,
Thank you for the patience with us on this. This has been one of the most popular ideas on UserVoice and we definitely heard your feedback.
Today we launched /announcement for mods and streamers. Announcements can be used in chat to highlight a message and are available in 4 different colors along with the channel accent color. Because this is only part of the ask of this idea we are setting this idea to partial release so the community can continue to leave feedback on this.

Regarding auto-mod, I added 'donated' to the block list on channels I managed and the abuse problem disappeared. The word is not used by any legitimate bot on the platform.

Just under consideration? How is something that overtook another suggestion which has been around for 3 months just getting a under consideration reply? Does twitch really have their heads so far up their *** that they don't see the massive backlash from this change so undo it.

How, precisely, was the change a move to combat abuse? Did automod not flag terms under the /me use as if it were normal chat?

Bring the colours back please! Without them, not only is chat less fun, but also it is now one big blur of indistinguishable messages. Reading chat while streaming is hard enough as it is, no need to make it even harder!

The change to /me doesn't achieve this. Is there an explanation for this?

I think this is one of the most ridiculous updates so far, you say it is because you want to address "abuse", you might as well say it is to save the world from going out of water, this is not gonna change anything.
Only thing you are doing here is making it way harder for people to distinguish important messages in chat from you (either through your account, the bot or your mods). If you want this to be a thing, atleast make us able to choose in our channel who get coloured when they write with me and who does not, so we can choose to make ourself and mods (as an example) coloured when it is but rest is not, or choose to make everyone get coloured when they write with me.
Before you do it like this, this new "update" (rather a downgrade) is useless. -

What a cringe PR comment. You guys continuously make blunder after blunder and try to sweep it under the rug by doing this vague backtracking/damage control. Like, would've it been so hard to have a system that allows users to Opt in to feature changes like this? Or give the content creator more control and functionality if it's really an accessibility or as "abuse" issue like you say it was. It never has been a issue, and you're just causing more turmoil by changing basic features that have been apart of the site since the start.

Fine, take the color... but in a very very very active chat, as a Mod, I need a way to communicate to my streamer. Give me something... and not italics... the only thing Italics says is IGNORE WHATEVER I TYPE HERE

Don't even start with "the safety of our community remains our top priority."

This feature, that was for years available to all users and has now been ripped away without warning should be returned to all users not just broadcasters and mods, to return the right to some but not others would be an insult.
Give streamers the option to turn /me off in their chat if some people find it that much of an issue and allow the rest of us to enjoy the well used, entertaining feature we have always enjoyed.
If Twitch can give streamers the option to put chat in slow mode, follower/sub only mode and even emote only mode it can't be that hard to offer the option to filter out one command? -

No one asked for this change and it removes the fun of making rainbows with twitch chat. At least let it be an option for streamers to disable it if they wanted to disable it not just remove for the majority of the site that enjoys it.

I'm still not seeing any context, just a very vague mention of abuse. I'd like to know what actual abuse was being perpetrated. I'm sure you can leave out the names and nobody will have any idea who you're talking about. Now, if by "abuse," you're referring to some people who should already know how Twitch operates by being an affiliate being suckered into thinking they got a donation, that's hardly abuse by any standard definition, and it's certainly not some sort of safety hazard. Could you maybe define the word abuse?

I get why you made the change, but as a streamer on your platform with a visual disability that makes it harder for me to read chat, Italics were really NOT helpful in making that easier.
If this is going to be a permanent change, I feel it will adversely affect many people's ability to connect with their viewers in chat, not just people with disabilities like myself. -

"we wanted to address the way this feature was being used to perpetrate abuse against members of our community."
This addressed a minority of users who got duped by a fake/bot donation message once while sacrificing effective chat command settings and accessibility customization for thousands of other streamers.
"While we recognize this change is frustrating for some,"
There are absolutely more people complaining about this change and offering alternate suggestions or calling for its complete reversal than people who are fully praising it. The dev response even acknowledges in the last paragraph that you are listening for ideas and feedback from those even slightly against it. From this comment section before the dev response I think I found two people who were in complete support of this decision compared to the now over 4000 that have upvoted the original feedback post.
"the safety of our community remains our top priority."
Considering how vocal Twitch's userbase regularly is about oppression and abuse and Twitch's apparent lack of effective response towards this since the userbase is still calling for changes that you do not seem to want to go forward with, this sounds like an impossible stance to keep and a nonsensical defense/scapegoat to use for something as near-universal to a relay chat as a chat command.
Stop compensating for something you do not want to talk about, and bring back /me as it was.

The italic text also poses a legibility issue for those with low vision, unless/until you're going to introduce ways of choosing fonts and sizes some time soon?
