[MERGED] Bring back colored /me chat messages + Update the /me command to color chat messages FOR MODS/BROADCASTER ROLES ONLY
Or at least give streamers the authority to enable or disable it. But the ENTIRE point was how it stood out with color. Plain black with italics just renders it useless.
Hey all,
Thank you for the patience with us on this. This has been one of the most popular ideas on UserVoice and we definitely heard your feedback.
Today we launched /announcement for mods and streamers. Announcements can be used in chat to highlight a message and are available in 4 different colors along with the channel accent color. Because this is only part of the ask of this idea we are setting this idea to partial release so the community can continue to leave feedback on this.

If this is a problem for individuals with colorblindness, perhaps Twitch could use their colossal brains to put in an individual setting for those people that will color shift/focus things to color palettes that work for those individual's specific color requirements.
As a streamer I heavily rely on the color change for a text that /me provides, for bot messages or other things. Italics doesn't cut it, it's just another plain colored message that doesn't grab my attention as chat scrolls by.

did anyone actually vote for this? I didn't I love /me

It was literally never a problem, nobody wanted italics. Bring back the color.

Another option is let the user themselves pick the colours that will help colour blindness or partial sighted people like was done with the chat appearance

Revert the change made to the /me command or at least allow it to be enabled stream by stream. The coloured text helps Mods and Nightbot to stand out from the rest of chat with announcements/warnings and so forth. Also allows dyslexic viewers to read chat more clearly

Please allow us to toggle if we want the coloured /me text in our streams or not. It helps with allowing mods & channel bots to stand out with important messages for the stream.

Italic text doesn't stand out as much as colored text, period. Really bad change in my opinion.

I gave Twitch the benefit of the doubt in believing this effort was meant for colorblind users, not to simply restrict user expression.
Giving broadcasters/mods the ability to turn off the /me command is a better step to take instead of unilaterally pushing this update on the entire community. I could not find an announcement surrounding this on a blog post.
Since Twitch has proved chat has the ability to display italic fonts, why is this feature restricted to /me command. It'll be a great benefit for the community to be able to mix regular and italic fonts for a richer chatting experience.
On that same note, what is stopping Twitch from enabling other rich text features, such as **bold** and ~~strikethrough~~?

I've never used this personally but I don't see why it would be removed if it's something use and helps others (in chat and those streaming). One thing I know is the more formatting options we have, the better!

I don’t know who told you this was the right thing to do but I can tell you judging by everyone’s reaction no one wants this change. BRING COLORED MESSAGES BACK! I’m gonna be so confused on what’s a bot message and an actual message now with these stupid italics, makes it harder to read

This is a terrible update. /me makes chat FUN, allows for distinction between certain messages (particularly stream bot messages created BY the streamer) and helped clarify between certain messages. Now italics have made those messages harder to read. PLEASE REVERT.

The /me command having color made it stand out and that was the entire point. Italicizing it does not make it more accessible or prevent abuse; it just makes it harder to read, and does not make /me stand out. There was absolutely no reason to make this change.

That the message was colorized already DID minimize confusion, now you just created more unnecessary confusion.

Italics make it hard for people with reading and sight issues to see.
If this was about letting colour blind people see things better, then colour blind CSS options should be provided instead (just like a dark and light mode).
Absolutely not a good move removing coloured text. Let the viewer decide how it appears for them via CSS.

This change has no sense why it was changed. So many channels have that as part of their content, and I see no way to abuse this whatsoever. It stood out with color, which made it cool originally. Seriously this change is not how you make things better when you have follow, chat, and hate bots running rampant on your platform that continually go unaddressed.

If this many votes and comments in such a short time isn't enough for you.... not to mention everything on twitter and the conversations going on in Twitch chats right now....you are Blind twitch.
Can someone PLEASE tell me how this feature was being abused? better yet, confusing?

I get trying to do stuff to "stop abuse." But, out of all the things I've seen Twitch implement, this has got to be the most mind-boggling of them all. It makes me wonder who is sitting around the table (or the zoom cams) thinking, "yeah, the userbase will like this." I mean...
Anyway, please change it back.

I legit hadn't even thought about the fact that my bot messages all used the /me command to stand out from regular text and now they'll just blend in because italics aren't different enough from the regular text.
