Mobile app update: Removing account age and follow date actively protects ban evaders and trolls
Dear Twitch Support Team,
I am writing to express my strong frustration regarding a recent mobile app update that completely broke a vital safety feature for viewers.
Previously, simply tapping a user’s username or profile picture immediately displayed two critical pieces of information: the account creation date and how long they have been following the channel.
With the latest updates, this panel is completely empty of any useful context.
Removing these details feels like a deliberate downgrade that actively helps bad actors while leaving regular viewers unprotected:
Shielding ban evaders and stalkers: When someone gets banned, they immediately create a throwaway account. Tapping their profile was the fastest way to spot a 5-minute-old account coming back to harass people or evade bans. Stripping this feature essentially hides them in plain sight.
Misleading viewers: Without follow age and account creation data, regular viewers are stripped of their judgment. Anyone can pretend to be a trusted community member or impersonate someone, and we have zero immediate tools on mobile to verify who we are talking to.
Safety regression: Why remove basic public data that kept chats transparent ? You have taken away a primary defense mechanism against malicious spam, whisper harassment, and toxic behavior.
Hiding these basic metrics does not protect privacy — it protects trolls and ban evaders.
Please roll back this regression and restore the creation date and follow status on the mobile and website profile pop-up immediately.
