Twitch Needs to improve communication with their creators
Since Dan Clancy has taken over as the CEO of Twitch, I have praised the company for improving its communication with creators. The level of transparency has increased dramatically over the last two years, and it has been refreshing as a creator on the platform
The recently announced and implemented change re: Highlights and Uploads identifies a key problem with the Twitch leadership that is causing pain points for their creators. As someone that has worked with the C-Suite level of business over my professional career, I recognize that this issue - meaning the cost and ROI (return on investment) of permanent video content on the platform - was identified as a pain point many months ago. This issue should have been clearly communicated with creators on the platform, in a way that is easily found and digestible by creators and viewers alike. That way, creators could have been working on this over the last few months or even years versus trying to scramble in less than 60 days while still maintaining their livelihood, whether that's as a creator or elsewhere.
Instead, now your most dedicated creators - the ones who want the most to make great content on your platform - are stuck scrambling, trying to figure out how to manage this new rule that was implemented out of the blue. Your post on Twitter stating that "only 0.5%" are affected by this was incredibly callous, considering those 0.5% are likely in the highest percentage of revenue drivers on your platform
This post isn't meant to address the issue re: the rule change on Highlights and Uploads. You've made your stance and are unlikely to change it, as you've shown multiple times over your storied history as a business. What does need to be addressed is the continued failure by the Company to properly communicate pain points and concerns to the creators on it's platform. If what Mr. Clancy said at CES is true - that over 66% of the revenue on Twitch is driven by subscriptions - having a more informed and educated creator will only prove to benefit Twitch in the long term, as it allows creators to create more business friendly content. This, while simultaneously providing a more clear vision for creators to follow as they continue to try and create amazing content for you to host
In short, I'm asking for the following:
Clearly communicate identified pain points with creators, either via the Twitch.tv website, direct email, and/or through communication from Twitch Ambassadors
When changes are being considered, communicate with the to-be-impacted creators immediately to allow them to start working on solutions on their side, that way they can continue to create quality content for the viewers of the platform
Create a clear and identified Twitch.tv hosted space for updates and Twitch related news to exist. If a Final Fantasy 7 mobile game can have a notices tab with clear communication, Twitch can too
Continue to be transparent, both with creators and viewers, to allow for a trusted relationship to continue. Both for our sake and the longevity of Twitch.

Twitch has improved transparency with creators, but the sudden Highlights and Uploads change shows poor communication. Known issues were not shared early, leaving creators scrambling with little time to adapt. The focus should be on clearer, earlier, and centralized updates to build trust and support long-term growth—just like how clear menus, such as the Kfcmenuu burger menu in South Africa, help customers make informed choices. Without the streamers you have no business, so the least you can do is communicate changes with adequate time for streamers to make adjustments without it affecting their livelihood or mental health.

Anything to help creators and viewers seems to always have a negative impact when "big" announcements like this happen and this one is much bigger with its feedback that's been received the moment it was put out there on social media. Creators/viewers make Twitch what it is and to take away features, especially this one that goes back to each and every single creators content over the years, that even viewers go back to and watch through VODs simply is not the way to go. Twitch has its history and so do its creators, but to take it all away like that in an instant and causing everyone to be in a frenzy to need to back everything up in the most horrible way without any proper tools that other competitors have makes the situation worse. From moments, to history, and achievements that have been made that capture what happens in every single channel on streams; to make it impossible for everyone to back everything up is nothing short of bad timing when it's immediate. Do better Twitch!

Large changes like this need a good amount of lead time and communication! Creators need time to make/buy room for housing all their footage, set up YouTube accounts for vods and highlights (if they haven't already), contact editors to review footage or do it themselves if they don't have the means to have an editor on call. This most recent issue has been very poorly managed and just shows that there's needs to be a better process for communicating these proposed changes in the future. Leveraging the twitch ambassadors should be the first step WELL before implementing changes
