Pause stream when ads rolls, and run at increase speed until you catch up.
Add the option to instead of just cutting away the part of the stream that continue to run even when an ad interrupts it, the stream is paused at the same moment the ads start. Then when the ad ends, you continue where you left off, but the VOD is speed up by an amount you select, e.g. x2 until you catch up to the live stream, at which point you go back to the live stream.
Another option that would be nice if some full screen ads with audio was traded for silent banner ads, and that you get like one "skip token" for every ~5h you spend watching twitch. The token allow you to skip the full screen ads and trade it for a banner ad that displays for much longer, so that you do not have to miss some really important moment in a stream where you also do not want to be in sync with the chat.

Please. This is a no brainer and so easy to implement... How has this not been done??

I am shocked this hasn't more upvotes. Especially in some broadcasts with live commentary it's super annoying to miss part of the dialogue.
Make it simple. Ad rolls, after the add resume from where the ad started at x1.25 speed. Just like ChundaDaSilva said.

For every 20 seconds ad you need about 1:30 minutes to catch up, you could show up to 5 ads every 10 minutes with little to no loss in content.

The solution is very simple, and works on most of the problems with ads.
Make the stream stop as the ads roll up, and when the ads end you resume playing where you left off with 1,25x speed until you catch up.
As it is, twitch is worse than TV, on TV you don't lose content, on twitch you do. -

When streamers run ads, pause the stream and resume it from the same spot after the ads are finished. Then give viewers the ability to fast forward back to live when there is a dull moment in the stream. Ads can still be aired without content being missed.
