Remove mid-roll ads
Cancel the testing of mid-roll ads on affiliate and partner channels. Your viewer base doesn't want this and creators don't want ads playing out of their control interrupting their content
As we announced on Twitter earlier, we have concluded the mid-rolls experiment. Thank you all for your comments and the incredible momentum you’ve contributed to this topic.
There have been many great suggestions, both in this thread and in the Ads forum that we have taken back to the team for consideration. It’s important to know that ads are essential to the future of Twitch, however we want to make things as painless as possible. Please still upvote, share, comment, and create new ideas in this forum so that we may continue to benefit from all of your passionate influence.

Please consider how detrimental this would be for viewership, Ads are already block by ad blockers by many viewers so why would this seem like a good idea to implement? This is such a bad idea and would not be beneficial to creators or viewers. Please listen to the community!

Midroll ads at random are always a bad idea, especially in a lifestream. Just don't do it.

mid-roll ads is a great piece of ********... little streamers scare away viewers with it

When I watch a stream I want to be able to continue watching and listening to it. I don't want to suddenly be interrupted by a random ad at an exciting moment and miss the action. User-Streamer interaction works by being able to hear when the streamer talks to you. Taking this away will cause so much frustration.
Please cancel this feature. -

twitch is not a functional platform for midroll ads, you should already know this. Picture in picture is not an "uninterrupted ad-viewing experience," you should already know this.
Both users and creators almost uniform hate the ads you already have, you should already know this.
The fact that you should already know all this means this has nothing to do with creators and is purely your own greed. -

This is a HORRIBLE idea! Breaking the stream without a warning, where an important discussion might be going on or a crucial part of an in game story may be presented... Forced adverts are just BAD. Plain and simple. Very very BAD idea!

Remove it. As a content creator I want control over my ads and will leave the platform if this is taken away from my hands.

This ruins the experience more than the potential reward is.
First off, not all content is suited for ad breaks. How about high intense long lasting action scenes (e.g. speed running, long boss fights) or generally calmer content like ASMR, which would be ruined by loud ads in between. Not only would most of these be difficult to even manually trigger by the streamer, if they don't they lose all control about when an ad plays.
Then there is the meta level, that even when you roll an ad voluntarily because you want to avoid having it random, you will unlikely continue with your usual content until the ad time is over. So even people who are subscribed and generally free of the ad hazard will not get the usual content without breaks, that might not be there if not for the ad.
If it were at least worthwile to roll an ad financially, streamers could make a case for a low effort way to support them, for viewers that may not have the money to subscribe, but like the streamer in general. So they don't go away if ads roll more frequently.
The problems for many streamers stated above still hold true. Ads are just a bad way to monetize in general for any live content. People shunned Television for that ages ago, and now that shit is back and in this case doesn't even help the content creator.

Please don't implement this. It will ruin the live engagement streamers work so hard to foster in their streams. If you do, at least provide creators the ability to opt-out.

i didn't notice the title of this thread "how can we improvie the ad experience?" well the answer is simple: leave it at that.

The tweet by Twitch Support says: "...ads won't run if the viewer has had an ad break in that channel recently." Please can you clarify "recently"? 15 mins? 30 mins? An hour?
Please think how this will affect especially small streamers as the ad revenue is pennies for us and it's simply not worth losing the viewers we have spent months or even years building up as with constant ad bombardment they WILL go. I wouldn't blame them.
Ads are immersion breaking, jarring (as they are often so loud) and frustrating, please don't inflict more of them on our audiences.

Remove the mid-roll ads or as before: let the streamers decide when ads should be played.
At the moment the Stream is played small in the corner when an ad is played. Why don't you do it the other way around? So the ad is small in the corner while the Stream is played as usual

Twitch isn't just about streaming video games any more. There are people now doing chess, crosswords, interactive quizzes... If you cut away from those for even a moment, it will completely kill the train of thought. Grow the user numbers to increase the market, don't kill the ecosystem.

This will potentially break everything great about twitch!
In the middle of a conversation and an Ad plays? best repeat what you said.
Ad during critical moment of a game?
Ads put people off, ads make people not come back.
Why do you think Ad blockers are so popular?
Listen to your community, do not do it. -
LambdaOTD commented
And obviously it is to make people subscribe so you (Twitch) earn more money, doesn't it ?

This is a stupid idea, we have too many ads on other services and we don't need ads mid stream on twitch either.
It's unfair to those people who can't afford subscriptions to be forced to watch an advert that you can 100% guarantee won't effect the person watching the ad, nobody watches the ad, they look away whilst it plays.
I hate joining a stream that I am not subbed to and having to watch an advert at the start, I understand the necessity for this, but I do not agree with forcing mid stream ads upon those who aren't subscribed, people will leave the stream and in the end that hurts the streamer more then anything.
This is definitely one of the worst idea Twitch have thought up, There is more important things to be fixed, that the community have been asking for, for a very long time. And yet Twitch is saying "Hey let's force ads on people" NO! Stop!
End of rant.

Give the broadcasters the option to turn off ads on their channel completely. I don't want to profit by alienating my audience with ads. No pre-roll ads. No mid-roll ads. I don't want any of it. Twitch loses money as well, encouraging viewers to leave streams they're invested in because an onboxious, often very loud ad starts playing. This hurts broadcasters', and therefore Twitch's viewership and drives traffic AWAY from the website. Put an end to it. I don't know anybody who asked for ads to be put on their channel.
