Remove mid-roll ads
Cancel the testing of mid-roll ads on affiliate and partner channels. Your viewer base doesn't want this and creators don't want ads playing out of their control interrupting their content
As we announced on Twitter earlier, we have concluded the mid-rolls experiment. Thank you all for your comments and the incredible momentum you’ve contributed to this topic.
There have been many great suggestions, both in this thread and in the Ads forum that we have taken back to the team for consideration. It’s important to know that ads are essential to the future of Twitch, however we want to make things as painless as possible. Please still upvote, share, comment, and create new ideas in this forum so that we may continue to benefit from all of your passionate influence.

You're gonna drive the few people who don't use adblock to start. I don't know why you thought this was a good idea but I'm willing to bed your ad revenue will tank as a result

cancel this feature, it disrupts the streamflow

I make it a point NOT to buy any product brought up in one of your ads.
You're a billion dollar company, you do not need this.
Quit shoving your corporate greed in our faces.

Rocket League and other eSports streams makes sense. But not ASMR channels

An initial ad when first joining a stream is fine (except at the start of raids as people miss the welcome introduction).
Mid role ads are not welcoming at all if you are trying to interact with your audience.
Not everyone is aware these are automated and people can assume the streamer is responsible for them. Please consider leaving the mid ads upto the streamer to manually trigger them.

I understand BIG partnered streamers getting ads, but smaller content creators who are struggling to hold viewers getting ads shoved down their viewers throats? Completely unfair. Remove this.
I got into streaming to help others relax and get away from our current messed up world, not force RAID SHADOW LEGENDS in their face.

I support channel chosen and moderated ads. I DO NOT support this particular idea. It's intrusive, disruptive, and flat out greedy.

This is already a completely outdated model of revenue generation, and you want to flat-out exacerbate the issue by removing creators' autonomy? Speaking as an Affiliate to whom this will offer literally no benefit, it's a disgustingly brazen approach to profiting off creators and their communities on your platform.

Mid-roll ads are an idiotic idea brought on by nothing more than a combination of greed and lack of genuine competition. Whoever thought this was a good idea should be fired.

If ya want me to run ads as part of my job I’ll do it but ya gotta give me choice as to when and I’ll make it happen. This method just sucks and has just defeated what little energy I had left from this terrible year.

While I understand that advertising is an important part of the platform, ads that mute the stream and force it into a mini player are disruptive for streamers and viewers, and will almost certainly drive viewers away. Alternatives, such as banner ads, should be tested, but the mid-roll ads as currently described are a terrible idea.

I doubt even advertisers would want this. Who would want their brand negatively associated with being the cause of missing an epic moment in the stream you were enjoying

There is no benefit for viewers and streamers running random mid-roll Ads during a stream - only Twitch might have a small financial benefit. I would guess that if mid-roll Ads are getting generally forced by default, people will leave Twitch and use other platforms.
Interesting parts of the stream can be missed by the viewers, when there are random Ads within the streams and the streamer itself can not control them.
Let the streamers decide when and how often they want to run Ads in their streams.
Ads, especially random Ads, are such an annoying and outdated way to generate money. They are the reason why people stop watching normal TV.
When a streamer itself decides to run Ads within breaks or by end of the stream besides his main streaming content, this, for me personally, is absolutely acceptable. -

I already stopped watching twitch except for the streamers I still sub to. Mid-roll ads destroy growth for small and medium sized streamers, or any streamer where talking/conversation is a focal point. Also how is this handled during multiplayer nights on games where the audience needs to see what’s happening on screen? This is money grubbing plain and simple. Amazon: “Well how to we please shareholder more than last year? Well, there’s plenty of free time on twitch that we can fill with ads and more ads = more money” don’t forget to say goodbye to your audience who already can’t stand ads

So far this has cut off a significant battle in SC2 as well as the casters mid-sentence. It's so frustrating that it makes watching the stream actually infuriating. I just cannot countinance how this idea could be viewed as non-toxic in any way. Please 100% kill this idea dead and never ever try to rework it.

I feel that a company as large as Twitch can think of a better monetization option that doesn't include alienating your entire user base. Perhaps put some thought towards usability instead of profitability.

Rolling sudden, uncontrolled by the streamer, mid-roll adds will be terrible across so many of the content types of Twitch.
As someone who primarily streams and watches Makers and Crafting, part of the interest many people have is learning how to do something. Instructions being lost could lead to issues with the final product, and a user feeling negatively about that streaming experience. This will also likely apply to Arts, and Food and Drink.
For gaming, how awful will streamers and their communities feel when they finally beat a challenging boss, or a major plot point is revealed, or a personal best is achieved... and the community couldn't hear it because an ad was playing, or they can't see because the player is made so much smaller.
And in all communities, there is the universal problem - this will disrupt the community building that we are encouraged to do BY Twitch in the various on-boarding videos and information. A streamer is having a heart to heart, sharing jokes, having a moment, or just generally chatting... and 60-90 seconds of what they are saying to their community is lost. This means that a whole conversation could be lost. How frustrated will both the streamer and the community be?
I am not without suggestions, however. Currently, I do roll mid-roll ads when I take breaks. I have control over this, and it does not disrupt what I am doing nor does it disrupt the stream. Emphasize this to streamers, or even push requirements around this that if are not met, will result in random mid-rolls. It's not perfect, but it gives us choice and has less chances of disrupting the community. It also may encourage streamers to take breaks more often, get up and stretch, which can benefit them as well.
Thank you for your time reading this.

Twitch needs ads to keep the service running but this isn't the way to do it. For a long time the big name channels have been able to run mid roll ads at their discretion; why not build an incentive in for this to be done and then roll it out to all channels? As a channel with only a tiny viewer count I'd still happily run ads during my breaks but I don't have the option. Instead I'm interrupted without even knowing it. There are so many better options than random mid-rolls; how did anyone think it was a good idea?

If I miss a new chat meme/important moment because I'm being forced to watch an add in the middle of a stream I've been watching for 2 hours I'm going to be mad
