tVOS 17.0 Twitch App video goes black after 5 minutes of watching
Re posting this to the TV App bugs.
Multiple users having issues with the app during any sort of playback.
The Twitch Apple TV app does not work on the new tvOS 17.0 OS . When watching a VOD or live stream, the video will suddenly go all black but the sound will continue playing.
This issue has been reported multiple times not only here but also as feedback, and nothing has been done, and there have been no acknowledgements from the team.

I'm on tvOS 17.6, the video plays fine but the sound keeps dipping in and out until eventually the stream buffers, after which the sound is fine. It happens every time I start a stream.

This has started happening on live streams in the past week or so. Apple TV 4k on tvOS 17.5.1.

It seems like either a recent Twitch app update, or the iOS 18 Public Beta has finally resolved this issue?
At the risk of jinxing things, I’ve been watching a VOD for 3 hours now without a single hiccup.

That this is still going on so long is pretty sad. I am going to cancel my turbo membership at this point, as I mainly watch VODs of my favorite streamers and the price hike of turbo in combination with so many bugs is ridiculous.

vods are still unwatchable on appletv without the screen going blank 20 times an hour

🙏 sometimes i have to pause/play several times in just 10 minutes during a vod.
As others have said - while watching a past broadcast the screen goes black but the audio continues. If you don’t do anything the apple tv goes to screensaver mode. If you push play/pause twice the video speeds up to match the audio and you’re good…for now.
This also happens during live streams, though less frequently than past broadcasts. -

Watching a live streamer I’m not subscribed to this morning, and he ran ads at one point. After the first three, which each counted down -30 or -15 seconds, the fourth one said “-1:25:43 4 of 4” and his stream came back up. It was CRYSTAL clear, like never before - I was pulling full resolution and frames for sure, and the black screen didn’t occur. It never does during ads, of course, so this somehow glitched it and I was able to watch straight through with extreme clarity and color. Whatever is being done to protect ads would be great for streams!

This has been an issue for several months. Viewers on an Apple TV frequently get a black screen on VODs. Audio comes through without any visuals. I left a 1 star review on iTunes since there’s no indication this will ever be addressed.

Who can we contact about this ongoing issue? It has been going on for more than 1 year. Both Twitch and Apple should be interested in fixing their broken app.

I first reported this issue on September 20th 2023 with ZERO response from twitch thus far. This company is comically incompetent.
