Extend Clips API to provide the MP4 url so editors can automate downloads
If I have an oAuth that represents a User, where the User is either
- the broadcaster the clip is of
- an editor of the channel that the clip is of
- the user is the owner of the clip
And I make a request for a Clip as documented: https://dev.twitch.tv/docs/api/reference#get-clips
(but with the bearer naturally)
The JSON Response should include the direct link to the MP4 or an ability to download the Clip.
This is off the back of the removal/deprecation of some undocumented API's that I was using to get the MP4 URL for automated download for creation of clip reels and similar.
A dedicated "Get Clips Download" API endpoint has been added as an open beta and is expected to be generally available (i.e. stable with no further changes) in two weeks. More details are available in the announcement: https://discuss.dev.twitch.com/t/get-clips-download-twitch-api-endpoint-now-available-in-open-beta/64334

Agentic systems would benefit greatly from exposing a download link. While large creators can afford to hire staff for their channel, small creators (<20 avg viewers) do not have this luxury. In fact, the issue becomes exceptionally troubling when you consider the lack of discoverability on twitch; and the raw power of publishing highlights to YouTube.
Such systems will only benefit twitch. Discoverability for small channels is discoverability for twitch itself.
LLMs are evolving at a rapid pace. The inclusion of function calling tools with intelligent prompting, increased context windows, and even reasoners have set the stage for AI agents to offer these forms of personal staff for creators who never had that opportunity before.
Other well respected APIs in the dev community, like YouTube's v3, are completely ready for the agentic revolution. Twitch is almost there, too. But exposing a download link for authenticated requests is essential to being a leader, and not a reluctant participant, in this revolution.
Such links are already available for creators and even editors of channels through the dashboard. Why not make it available through authenticated requests?
See what YCombinator has to say about the growth of AI Agents as personal staff:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2S1Z6YEKVoM
TLDR: Exposing a download link for VODs, for sufficiently authenticated requests, will allow for revolutionary UX in agentic systems that will help small creators, and Twitch itself, to grow. Without this feature, the UX of such systems takes a hit that other platforms do not suffer from.

Showing clips of people who've raided me and people I shout out was a huge part of my stream and a great way for small streamers to connect

You seriously charged subscribers more money AND broke all overlay clip players? Next you'll break the functionality of streaming itself while withdrawing our entire bank accounts. Just fix this so we can do what you're incapable of.

I have an entire segment at the begining of every stream where I feature clips from VIP members and other streamers trying to get affiliated. This change is not necessary and has impacted my community.

Please allow clips, they help creators grow and it is a really important thing to let creators be able to show!

Dan said on Patch Notes today that making bulk download system is difficult and doesn't always work. Meanwhile third party devs been doing it for a few years with workarounds with undocumented API and now the API doesn't provide mp4 at all because of Twitch.
Now they are deleting highlights and telling us to manually export them and that they will be manually deleting them on the backend.

Oh for **** sake, I just started trying to download my year's top clips using my own automated tools for my end of year clip review stream, and to have locally to use for my intro/brb screen clip reels, only to find out that for like 50% of clips the download link is complete garbage and find my way here.
Look how many angry people there are, we're all streamers just trying to do stuff on our streams on YOUR platform.
I'm so absolutely and completely sick of all these constant **** API changes and regressions over the years. It never gets better and only ever gets worse. I've literally never seen a GOOD api change, only ever recouping back to at least as good as it was before it was broken! Please do that again here. I'm not even asking for improvement, just restoration of how good it was before! -

Being able to reliably share clips is vital to a healthy streaming ecosystem.
Please implement changes like these to make it easier to share and stop removing tools that are being used. Just because they are older doesn't mean they should be thrown out without appropriate replacements in place and good documentation.

Discovery on Twitch is difficult. Clips and content sharing are a great way for streamers to help with it! These functions are already widespread on social media - TikTok stitches and duets, for example - so let's improve Twitch's functionality to match! We've been mired in this clumsy and ancient system for too long.

Being able to play clips for our audiences is a huge way to get more eyes on our friends and peers! It helps us showcase all the people around us worth following and watching, and yes even subscribing to.
Having so many API changes that break clip bots and things is so detrimental to growth! Not only that of the streamer but of the platform. Some viewers might not even consider watching more people without clips. They're vital, and we should be able to easily show them off!

Can we please get this feature. At the very least give us an interactive frame for clips.

Removal/Deprecation of undocumented API that makes things harder for creators to do exciting things on Twitch shouldn't even surprise me anymore, but it continues to. PLEASE consider this for your creators, so that we can invest interest in each other and grow our communities. Stronger communities bring more interest and stronger interest brings more profit BACK to Twitch.

I can't say for sure because I'm not Twitch staff, but knowing the infrastructure costs around video streaming and downloading, and seeing that they seem to intentionally obscure downloading now, I get the feeling its very intentional that they don't want people to be able to download anymore.

We also need a feature to download clips. In our Twitch team, we offer the option to integrate a Random Clip Player into streams, which is used by several streamers both within and outside the team.
However, since the new clip update, this is no longer possible with new clips, which not only affects our tool but also many widely used tools, such as a shoutout clip player.
It is urgently necessary to have a way to obtain the download link through the API, so these custom players can continue to function, as embedding alone does not provide the required functionality.

unable to bulk download clips anymore with two different tools
can't bulk download from Clips Manager either because download button is now hidden behind extra clicks per each clip
I see date, URL name, and clip file name have all been recently added to the mp4 file name from clip manager. I guess it's nice addition to have the clip date in the file name, but API fix would be better.
If it's about traffic, please at least let us bulk download our own clips and maybe only other channels if we are an editor role.
You're allowing streamers to have option to give clippers ability to export to their own socials. Is it really any different?
