Stop recommending me channels in languages I don't speak!
I've logged into Twitch today to find my recommendations page filled with stuff in Spanish, Turkish, Russian and Korean. I speak none of these. It's also offering me a "while [channel name] is offline" section for a channel I don't even follow. Fix your stupid algorithm.

Honestly embarrassing from twitch that this continues to be a problem. If you want the platform to grow, you have to build a recommendation algorithm that offers compatible streams viewers want to stick around watch. Currently it feels like the plan is to offer any stream that looks interesting to the viewer, issue a pre-roll and then wait for the viewer to move on to the next streamer delivering additional pre-rolls as viewers bounce round trying to find a stream they want to watch. I'm sure this is profitable activity but is also not a good experience for Turbo users. I'm not sure why Twitch would ever think that an English speaking viewer is EVER going to sit and watch a stream from another language. This never use to be a problem on twitch and its defiantly not a problem on YouTube.
3 Ways to fix this;
1. Force all streams to declare a speaking language. This should be as important as the game title and not just a stream "Tag".
2. Use AI to detect the language being spoken and use that data on the algorithm when calculating recommendations
3. Use User Interaction data to work out if the stream is in a language that works for them. For example if you can see that 90% of UK and USA viewers are clicking off a stream before 20 seconds but German viewers are sticking around that would be a clear example of a stream to recommend to German Viewers and not English Viewers.
While you are at it you need to implement a site wide filter to disable all streams from showing in another language (unless the stream has say 50-100+k viewers or some special promoted stream)
It would be simple to have this as question during setup of a new account, "Please select all languages you would like to watch streams in" and can be asked of all existing accounts when they next visit the site.
Again I stress, it is ridiculous to allow a viewer to be able to click into a stream that is speaking a language the viewer won't understand, it is even more ludicrous to be recommend said stream in the first place.

I get it's 3 years later but I will explain. You will never get rid of Streams that are in a different language. Some Streamers don't put a language filter in their stream, so it will still show up on twitch. Also, if you like a game it will show you the most popular viewers regardless of language filter. You will get notification and offers from channels because your followed Streamers have these as suggestive streamers to view while they themselves are not online. Has 0 to do with Algorithm's.

I went to an Asian channel to get a drop and now all of my recommendations are in a different language. Then I went to support thinking I could actually get help and just got redirected to an unrelated page with every category I checked. Twitch is a jerk for doing that. Deleting my account

This is really something I would like. Not only for recommended but to be able to filter the languages shown to me when browsing categories/channels. I know I can use tags but that only allows for 1 language at a time. I wanna be able to choose what languageS without having to be shown all the languages I can't understand..

This is bonkers. Suddenly every recommendation is Italian. I'm not using a VPN, so it's not like it's misidentifying my location. I refuse to believe there are no English-speaking streamers on at all today. Recommendations are useless, discovering new channels is an exercise in frustration.

To be honest I think this should be a requirement to stream: To type in your (max 2 or 3) spoken languages so that the viewers can filter channels after the language they do speak. This would be great imo. The feature added with this one would be to be able to report channels using the wrong language tag. So people can't fake-add English only to be shown to a broader audience when they really only speak (incert language here).

This. A million times, THIS. Of the 10 channels in the 'Live Channels We Think You'll Like' section only 2 are in English. As if it's not hard enough to get found on Twitch you're wasting recommendations on languages that people don't even speak.
YouTube Gaming doesn't seem to have this issue and for the life of me, I can't imagine why after all these years there isn't a way to set your language for recommended channels. Fix your janky nonsense.

Is it possible to simply add a feature which allows you to block streams in certain languages, or inversely, allows you to set the languages which you speak, so we don't get recommendations for channels in which I can't understand a single word?

For atleast half a year I have been getting the same "local" streamers as recommended streamers and ofcourse the odd tournament. I never watch any of them and find the option more of a hinderance, pausing it asap before heading to the ones I do enjoy. Adding the option to disclude certain languages/games/streamers and/or prioritise others seems like a easy way to improve the functionallity of "recommended streamers".
