Have an Indie category like Retro/Creative/IRL/etc
It would be super lit to have an Indie category to play lesser-known games. Very often I'll try to stream an Indie game and it either wont be listed on Twitch or have 0 viewers. It would be beneficial to indie devs too to get their name/games out there.
Thank you for your feedback!
While “Indie” is not a category that we have today or plan to offer anytime soon, we do keep track of which games are considered indie and they can be filtered for within Browse: https://www.twitch.tv/directory/tags/d72d9de6-1df8-4c4e-b6a2-74e6f4c80557

There is absolutely zero discoverability for anyone playing an indie game that isn't already popular, and no real way to introduce less known indie games to new viewers without already having noteworthy influence on the platform. Much like "Retro," there should be a general Indie category. This would only help both creators looking to stream less known indie games, and viewers looking for indie games they didn't know about before. A tag isn't good enough, we want a category that's easy and convenient for the average user to check in on and use regularly. Tags are very unintuitive and inconvenient to search for on their own, and it isn't remotely straightforward how to do so. A category would be far more helpful to everyone.

So Retro is fine but Indie is not? I don't understand the logic here.

I would love to be able to look at a general Indie category. It would boost exposure for lesser known, "diamond in the rough" (obligatory Jafar voice) games that would otherwise get buried.
It's disappointing that this request would be declined without a conversation even. I mean, what does it take for twitch to add an indie game to that category? Most indie games don't have a huge following without some stroke of luck discovery.

I concur with many of the comments here. Having an Indie Game category would be very helpful and it is hard to fathom why it isn't already a category, given there is an indie music category and similar catch-all categories like art and retro.
It is great that Twitch wants to track as many games as possible, but it is impossible to track every single indie game, especially if it is an indie game still in development
Hopefully this will be reconsidered in the future.

The reason for denying this request is absolutely asinine. We need an Indie Game category, just like we have for the examples mentioned in this request. Either that or allow creators to manual input the name of the game in the category. I play many indie games that are not listed in the DB

My problem with this "solution" personally is that searching for games/streams by tag is incredibly difficult to do easily. Even if you do manage to find those games by the indie tag, you then also have a huge list of games that are under this umbrella.
This is a move that would not only help discoverability of indie games, but discoverability of smaller streamers as well. If you're going to turn it down, at least give an actual reason other than "this obscure feature on the site lets you sorta do what you want". -

I supported this idea and even though the case has been closed, the reason I feel didn't include a good answer. However my personal answer I would of given was that like they said they do keep track with more indie/smaller games these days which is good. But I would of also mentioned that if the game isn't listed in the Twitch directory, that the streamers can just use the 'Games + Demos' directory instead until the game is added to the game directory list. I would also like to add that I think it would be a good idea to have streamers the ability to request games that haven't been added.

What a terrible non-solution. "Hey instead of having a category for you to find what you need, how about you browse these 500 other categories individually?"

The perfect solution would be an "Indie" category but when a streamer chooses this category (or the retro category) he would have to fill a new option with the precise name of the game. That way, people could search through the Indie/Retro category and give more visibility to old/small games but also search for a specific game if they want to o/.

Would love to have an "Indie Game" section both for devs and indie game players!

I personally dislike the "Retro" category as it makes it difficult to find specific games that you'd like to watch. You have to hope that the streamer has listed the game's title accurately in the title so you can even find it. I think it's redundant when you already have a retro tag already that helps you find those type of games and indie does as well. I think maybe having "Unlisted" or something similar for a category would help without creating a mess of a category like Retro is now.

I searched how to send ideas to twitch just to ask that!
And now I see when it was posted and I'm a little bit disappointed...
Hope this will be made! -

There is no Retro directory, the "Retro" section people use are for the PS2 game Retro https://www.gamefaqs.com/ps2/958156-retro
Just play the indie game you want to play in its correct directory or request a new directory for a new game. -

I have to back this- as a developer myself I think it would help discovery greatly.

Hey we have a small web project with a team of mine that concerns this matter (To be able to filter Streams/Games) to the very core. We have a set of detault genres/themes on: https://shikenso.com/?tab=1
Yet to get more Data on the streams - a streamer need to register and upload his schedule and set tags to his schedule/streams. Once a user for example uploads a schedule for an indie game and even tags it with "speedrun" "indie" etc. poeple can filter them out in our calendar. We are still a startup so obviously we still lack the data and have to make the community aware of these features.
Feedback and innovative ideas on this matter appreciated!

As a streamer that mainly showcases Indies I fully support this. If only I could give more than 3 votes!
