Programming should be a seperate category from Science & Technology
Every time I am trying to find a programming or game development stream to watch (which is a very specific type of stream) I get lost in all the growing plants and raising chickens 24/7 streams. While on the other hand there are a lot of programming and or game development streams that really deserve their own category. Being a part of the live-coders community I feel that splitting science & technology in a more granular way would benefit everybody. Both in terms of search-ability and clarity.
I'm all for this. This especially helps when searching for new channels and past broadcasts. Discoverability of live coding is tough everywhere on the internet, and this could give Twitch an edge, and at least signal that Twitch cares about the category. Would also be nice to have tags for languages/paradigms.
Boost! Please make this a seperate category.
Please please please. Please.
Most def... its kind of disrespectful to mix weed growth and computer science and Game dev. This streams work very hard and produce new and original content that can't be found on youtube "live". Most no gamer people are using youtube for there streaming endeveros... preserving there nich cultures seems crusial to suvival. As well are removing low value content like weed growth that dos not benefit from the live formar at all and dos not improve the platfrom
This is a must!!
Please, make this real <3
Go figure almost a year later and Twitch is still as tone deaf as ever to real problems.
Completely agreed. It's gotten to the point where I no longer bother looking since if I'm not finding programming or game development streams without considerable effort. Seems like an easy win-win scenario by simply adding them AND LEAVING THEM THIS TIME!
I really would appreciate this feature. The little tags don't cut it when there are numerous smaller streams that I want to visit and check out that don't have them so I end up mentally filtering out chickens and weed farms.
For me it's not just about separate programming from the rest of S&T, but being able to not manually filter chicken/cat/247-auto streams, so that definitely needs to be split out into its own separate.
That is, Programming with general computer science is fine, but please no 24/7 unattended streams like: chickens, earthquake monitors, cats areas, corvid stats, and the like. That is so annoying and even making me more and more angry everytime I see them when I just want to look out for Programming (of any type) and/or computer-science streams in general.
Tags don't solve the problem because tags are getting auto-removed if you don't stream for more than 2 days, and I personally are really sick of adding them again and again and again.. Also, what's the difference between #Programming and #SoftwareDevelopment?
Yes! This is such a good idea. It gets pretty annoying seeing all the "Raising my chickens 24/7" streams, when I'm only looking for programming streams.
Great ! I would love it !
This makes a lot of sense.
push all 24/7 streams into a category of their own and ENFORCE it. You should call it the... 24/7 Category.. it's a no brainer.
this needs to happen it is still annoying to look through science and tech a try and find coding stream amongst the mass of live animal and 24hr streams
Yes! Yes! Yes!
I used to regularly check the Game Development community for new/smaller streamers to watch. Now, they're lost among the constantly growing 24/7 streams, and so I stick with those at the top.
And I'm only able to do that because I use an extension that allows me to press 'X' to never see that stream again. I have over 100 channels blacklisted at the moment, and that only keeps the first 4 rows of channels clear.
tl;dr - Science & Technology is harming discovery of newer channels because it's such a broad category. And tags aren't the solution.
+1 let's go!!
