Keep Moments
Moments is a feature that Twitch released as a Beta to a handful of creators. Whenever something cool happened in your stream, you could give out a "Moment" to those who were there to witness it. Twitch just announced they are discontinuing it as of October. I'm writing this to ask you to reconsider.
The Moment was a clip that was created when you gave the command, and allowed for some minor editing. Anyone who claimed the moment would also receive a badge, and the more moments you claimed, the more your badge evolved over time. You could even click on someone's badge to see what moments they were there for.
As a creator, I was part of the Beta for Moments. This was an INCREDIBLE tool for engaging my audience. Most of the time, the Moments were for small little silly things that happened, but it allowed for my audience members who maybe couldn't afford to sub or cheer to showcase their loyalty to the stream by having a badge that said "I'm here for all the moments." The irony of the strength of this feature was that it wasn't really for "The Moment" you were there, but for combination of all the small little moments you got to share.
Growing on Twitch is about engaging your audience and giving them reasons to come back. Moments allowed viewers who tuned in for the day the chance at "being there" for something cool. It created an opportunity for people to stick around more and watch more of my content.
Anytime something cool happened my audience would say "MOMENT?," and so much so that I made an emote for the very thing. The emote ranked #1 in both my channel and outside my channel since it's creation for me.
It's failure as a feature is rooted in
- The Beta was too limited. Not enough people who could benefit from it were given the chance to use it.
- There was not a lot of push from Twitch to help creators understand why the feature is so good.
- The feature needed more feedback to shape it into something truly special.
Imagine having the badge and also attaching an Emote slot to Certain Tiers. Imagine having more options to really edit the clips so that you could really encompass the Moment. Imagine having MORE MOMENTS to give out so you could be more free with giving them out.
The reason it was cut was "limited use by the community" and that they would strive to "Create features that bring value to streamers"
Moments IS that feature. The badge is such a cool function. You don't need to make it compete with Featured Clips, in fact just having them on the viewer's profile under the badge is enough.
Please reconsider axing this and please actually reach out for feedback to those of us who get access to these Beta Features.

twitch just keep dropping Ls. why would you NOT keep this??? ive never heard a channel dislike them, everyone loves them. Its great for retention and viewership. "i want that fun badge" means they are gonna stay and watch streams + ads.
why is twitch making poor choices. -

Not only keep moments, but allow them to extend this to EVERY user (or at least all partners and affiliates). I was one of the users randomly selected to have moments on my channel and it was a huge blessing for my own growth as I would have people show up when they anticipated that I got closer to one of the milestones I happened to be going for at the time. I watch a few partnered and affiliated streamers as well that do not even have the feature and a common theme in those communities is people shouting "MOMENT" when the streamer if they had them would make use of them, and they have been begging to have them for over a year now. So please keep them, and lets get them out of the Beta testing phase too! Also not a lot of people are using them?! Say that to my Tier 9 badge I have! I never had the incentive or drive to make clips for my channel until moments rolled around.
As someone who actually has a background in data science/engineering, I'm a perfect example of how my watch hours (which directly reflects my overall ad revenue that also earns your company money) has dramatically increased in the time since moments were put in Beta, if you want the evidence firsthand, take a look at the heights of my public watch hour bar graph on https://twitchtracker.com/dsteves/statistics . The feature rolled out in July 2022 for me and if you compare the numbers before and after that month, there is without a doubt a significant increase over time after July 2022 as someone who is a member of your experimental group. I really hope that this is all just a cruel tease and then at TwitchCon its revealed that the feature will be available to everyone.

Please keep moments and open them up to all streamers! It adds to the sense of community and gives incentive to not miss streams :)

Moments have become a huge part of a lot of communities, and I think removing them is a HUGE mistake. There is no point in keeping this in beta when it already functions without issue (give or take slight changes). It incentivizes viewers to stay in stream and be part of those "special times in stream" and I know I love seeing the new tiers unlock with each moment. Instead, Twitch should give moments to every creator instead of just "a select few". So many people don't know they exist because they don't have access to it. How is a feature supposed to be used by the entire platform when not everyone has it?

This is a great way to reward chatters who can't or won't subscribe. If they are loyal and stick around, they can get an increasingly nice moments badge the more moments they are there for--which ultimately means twitch gets more ad revenue. You can even get rid of the clips feature if you need to, but I think just the badge itself is a great incentivizer to get chatters to stick around.

Give moments to all creators. I didn't even know it was still a beta-limited feature until it was canceled.

Moments have been really fun! I know I would be disappointed to lose my moment badges and I’m sure others feel the same.

Moments are a really good idea. Expand and promote them instead of killing them off without even giving them a chance.
