Keep Moments
Moments is a feature that Twitch released as a Beta to a handful of creators. Whenever something cool happened in your stream, you could give out a "Moment" to those who were there to witness it. Twitch just announced they are discontinuing it as of October. I'm writing this to ask you to reconsider.
The Moment was a clip that was created when you gave the command, and allowed for some minor editing. Anyone who claimed the moment would also receive a badge, and the more moments you claimed, the more your badge evolved over time. You could even click on someone's badge to see what moments they were there for.
As a creator, I was part of the Beta for Moments. This was an INCREDIBLE tool for engaging my audience. Most of the time, the Moments were for small little silly things that happened, but it allowed for my audience members who maybe couldn't afford to sub or cheer to showcase their loyalty to the stream by having a badge that said "I'm here for all the moments." The irony of the strength of this feature was that it wasn't really for "The Moment" you were there, but for combination of all the small little moments you got to share.
Growing on Twitch is about engaging your audience and giving them reasons to come back. Moments allowed viewers who tuned in for the day the chance at "being there" for something cool. It created an opportunity for people to stick around more and watch more of my content.
Anytime something cool happened my audience would say "MOMENT?," and so much so that I made an emote for the very thing. The emote ranked #1 in both my channel and outside my channel since it's creation for me.
It's failure as a feature is rooted in
- The Beta was too limited. Not enough people who could benefit from it were given the chance to use it.
- There was not a lot of push from Twitch to help creators understand why the feature is so good.
- The feature needed more feedback to shape it into something truly special.
Imagine having the badge and also attaching an Emote slot to Certain Tiers. Imagine having more options to really edit the clips so that you could really encompass the Moment. Imagine having MORE MOMENTS to give out so you could be more free with giving them out.
The reason it was cut was "limited use by the community" and that they would strive to "Create features that bring value to streamers"
Moments IS that feature. The badge is such a cool function. You don't need to make it compete with Featured Clips, in fact just having them on the viewer's profile under the badge is enough.
Please reconsider axing this and please actually reach out for feedback to those of us who get access to these Beta Features.

My community loves moments. Every community that has had access to them loves moments. This would be a terrible decision to remove them.

Over the past year, many Twitch communities, including those I actively participate in and/or mod for, have embraced Moments badges as a way to enhance their content in a fun and innovative manner. These badges allowed us to create memorable highlights from our streams, fostering engagement with our audience and providing an additional layer of entertainment.
While Twitch claims that there was not enough engagement with Moments badges, it is essential to acknowledge that this feature remained in beta stage throughout its existence. As a result, only a limited number of users had access to it. It is unfair for Twitch to base their decision solely on engagement when many communities never had the opportunity to utilize this exciting feature.
1. Growing Demand: Despite being in beta stage, numerous communities have expressed their desire for Moments badges since its introduction. The demand has been consistently high throughout the period it was available.
2. Positive Feedback: Many streamers who were fortunate enough to use Moments badges during the beta phase reported positive feedback from their viewership. The feature enhanced viewer interaction and encouraged them to stay engaged with streams for longer durations.
3. Untapped Potential: With only limited access granted during beta testing, there remains untapped potential for wider adoption of Moments badges among both streamers and viewers alike.
Please reconsider removing such a unique and special feature!

I wish I heard about this sooner! This is such a cool way to bond with your community! I hope the change their minds and keep it, and let more people use this tool!

I barely even cared about moments myself, but I think that it as a tool is very helpful for a lot of people. I don't see the point of removing tools that help streamers engage with their audience instead of just embracing several avenues to engage and letting the streamers decide on which ones they want to use. I agree with Pie though that adding emotes potentially to people who got different tiers of a moments badge would be fantastic for anyone who isn't really able to subscribe or do anything of that sort.
If more people had access to this feature instead of it being very limited (Or you could've just polled people who wanted to test this feature out that thought they could benefit from it. You know; more people like pie!) I feel like you'd notice that more people used it than you thought. I feel like even then; just because not everyone uses it, you shouldn't remove features that help even a few people no matter what.
Please stop removing helpful features!

I can't sugarcoat it: getting rid of the Moments feature is a very poor decision that only makes Twitch worse overall, and I think Pie makes a great argument here as to why that is the case. Why would Twitch get rid of a fledgling feature that most people CAN'T even use when it's something beloved by those who do?
It's something that makes Twitch unique; it's one of the advantages in Twitch's identity over something like YouTube. On YouTube where video content is generally the focus more than live content, clips by the streamer are the norm, and there's not really anything to set them apart as special beyond maybe a playlist. On Twitch, however, whose focus is live content, the concept of a rare, special clip by the streamer has a lot more magic to it, and I think that Moments are much more likely to highlight the best content a channel has to offer. Not only that, but as a viewer, you even get a badge to prove that you were there when it happened live. This decision is shooting yourselves in the foot, and both streamers and viewers in the back.
As a viewer, I've seen how excited chat gets when something cool and potentially Moment-worthy happens. Who decided this? Surely not someone who's seen how chats clamor "WHAT A MOMENT :O" after a momentous occasion, and dream of someday having the higher tier badges. Moments mean a lot to chatters, and taking this feature away will actively hurt the communities who use them. I strongly suspect the reason they're not used more is because a lot of streamers don't know they have them, haven't had their value adequately explained to them, or simply literally don't have them. Moments are a reason to hype chat up and make it feel like they witnessed something special and memorable. Their Moment badge progression proves their loyalty to the channel.
One of the key parts of live content is that feeling that YOU WERE THERE, and Moments have been an excellent way of proving that. Moments are one of the unique reasons people watch Twitch; there's a sense of FOMO, a reason to be motivated to catch every stream. Why would you kill something that perfectly complements Twitch's identity instead of improving it? Moments should not be removed; if anything, they should be expanded! Imagine if everyone had Moments, and they were up to three minutes long; special, deluxe clips hand-picked by the streamer themselves. Imagine if they had a full week to edit them! Do you really think they'd still be "underutilized" if all streamers had that unique ability to create longer, better clips than chat?
Please keep Moments. When you see the negative reaction to this and tell yourself it's not that many people affected, keep in mind that only a limited number of streamers even had access to this feature to begin with. A lot of streamers have been patiently waiting to have the opportunity to share Moments with their communities, and now it's being squelched before it even makes it out of beta.
If you think Moments aren't good enough for people to want to use them, improve them (a limited amount -- 5-10 each month -- of three-minute clips would be game-changing), give them to every streamer, and make sure streamers understand the benefits of using them. At their core, Moments are an incredible feature that sets Twitch apart, and their removal will kill viewers' motivation to be there for every single stream. Please reconsider!

Moments are actually cool, useful, and fun. Moments make hanging out in a stream more worthwhile and they're a nice way to look back on all the cool things that have happened that you've personally been there for. If Twitch is looking to get rid of features, start somewhere smarter, like the React feature that serves no real purpose at all when there is a chat room just to the side of the screen where you can express how the stream is making you feel.

I had so much fun watching the one streamer I watch that actually got moments. It was one of the reasons I think I became a longtime viewer and I was always hoping the other streamers I watched would get access to moments. Alas that didn't come and I would be genuinely extremely disappointed if twitch gave up on them all together.

Moments are in a sense no different from clips, and I think that's where the direction should be. Make clips more useful, discoverable and perhaps do with clips what was done with moments, in a sense. Were you there when the clip was made? Claim a badge or maybe something else. Expand on clips, get rid of moments.

They are also something to collect. Something that made me want to watch a stream more because it meant I might be part of a moment.
It's the same addiction as watching numbers go up, FOMO and all that ****.
We need more of these, not less.

Moments met the goals it intended to achieve in regards to engagement and rewards for regular long time viewers. It gave value to staying engaged and created a list of important clips that people could watch to catch up on the "lore" of a stream. The shortcomings of Moments are entirely on the limitations of the clipping system Twitch has barely improved since launch many years ago. Moments can only be 60s, must be clipped on the spot, must be renamed and managed within 24 hours, so many made up limitations that make the feature so hard to use. If ANY of those problems were fixed, and Moments was rolled out to more creators, there's not a doubt in my mind it would be utilized.
I'm so sick and tired of Twitch pushing out legitimate good features and ideas and not giving it the proper attention it deserves before judging if it's worth keeping or not. Next y'all are gonna get rid of the Highlighter just because not enough percentage of users use it? Even though it's an extremely important tool? The clipping feature of twitch gets the same amount of attention by development (hardly any) but it's staying around despite it still being buggy and extremely limited in scope.
Moments was meant to be a feature that gained value over time as people collected moments and streamers made their collection of special clips. This feature needs to be expanded. Its potential is so great. Stop giving up on features just because Twitch is terrible at educating users about how to use them and terrible at maintaining them. Just work on Moments.

There's a reason many people watch streamers live instead of watching recordings after the fact, and it's because they like being part of a community get-together, part of a cool moment in history. It's like seeing a band live instead of listening to an album. Moments are like snapshots of a live event, something that is shared with a community. They make you feel like you were a part of something really cool and fun. That's something worth keeping.

I very much agree with Pie. If moment really did have limited use it was only because streamers didn't have time to figure out how to use them. Some communities however, like Ironmon, have incorporated them as a fundamental part of how we viewers engage. Missing a moment is the embodiment of fomo, and being there for a moment is the best feeling, it's hype, and it makes me feel a part of the community. I can't image a better feature that rewards long term viewers while helping retain new ones.

This is quite literally the best addition to Twitch that has come out, and they're cancelling it? Dumbest idea since, well, every single idea since moments.
