[Test] First Participation Highlight in Creator/Mod Chat
Some creators will notice a new first-time chatter highlight is now available in chat. This feature lets creators and their mods identify and welcome newcomers in chat to their community when appropriate. The highlight is only available to creators and their mods in chat and is not displayed to the rest of your community. This feature is in a limited release, and we will monitor feedback before making it more widely available.
Creators and their mods are enrolled in the limited release automatically, and they can toggle the feature on and off in chat settings under "First Time Chat Highlight."
We'd love to hear your thoughts and suggestions here. We look forward to hearing your feedback!
We are happy to announce that the First-Time Chatter Highlight is now available to all creators and mods! You can learn more about this feature at the below link. Thank you all for your feedback!

Awesome features will do to make new people feel more welcome and happy to watch the stream

Sounds anxiety inducing, will incentivize people who aren't prone to chatting much to stay silent.
Imo a better similar feature would be "first message of this stream" so streamers with busy chats know when to say hi to someone who arrives during a busy moment, and avoid accidentally greeting someone half an hour after they show up. Which ofc can be disabled by the streamer, or available to opt-in (rather than opt out) once a channel's chat reaches a threshold of activity. -

I love this!
@invisiblejazz makes great points. Slow-mode and the ability to turn them off are definitely needed. -

This idea was tweeted by CheesyChappers as a reply to my tweet: "Maybe if it was an audience feature rather than for the streamer, like sub badges where newcomers could choose to add the 'first time chatter' notification themselves, then it would suit each member who comes in".
I also think this idea is pretty solid since it's a feature you already implement for viewers who have resubbed and are given the option to share or not share the news.

This is a great feature but it'd be even better to make a "whitelist" chat mode so messages from newcomers are held for approval by streamer/mod or just mod (to avoid streamer spoilers) which would cut out all spam/nickname spoilers from reaching chat/streamer. It would need to be toggle on/off'able like slow/emoteonly etc for if a raid comes in etc (or auto-suspend on raids perhaps)
For people asking for an "opt out" - the reality is when you speak for the 1st time in a channel, people can already see your previous messages (or lack of) and following time etc so it's not like they don't already know if you're new, this just makes it easier to see. Whether people call you out for it or not is up to them but this doesn't change that fact.

Really cool features! Helps me to make new people feel welcome and also makes it easier to spot trolls.

I love this idea! I wish I knew it was live before I streamed because I accidentally called out the first new chatterer WAY too excitedly because their message was highlighted. I was like "IS EVERYONE ELSE SEEING THAT? HOW COOL IS THAT?!" Probably made them feel super weird! But right after that first message I learned it was visible to mods and creators only, and I was much more calm and casual for other new folks that showed up and chatted for the first time. It's up to streamers to make people not feel anxious about it being their first message in a chat and just casually greet newcomers how we would anyone else. :)

Adorei esse recurso até o momento! Tem sido muito útil para reconhecer os primeiros visitantes, especialmente quando o bate-papo está rápido para acompanhar!

Is awesome! however can you add a "raid threshold" I got raided by 100+ and its pretty much just a wall of highlights at that point.

Has been really helpful for determining names that I do not see that often vs new, oh, and sorting out bigfollows spammers.

Cool feature, feeling like a raid/host might might make it a bit harder to keep up with chat because of the extra size the first message takes, but I guess that might be the tradeoff for having the feature over all ^_^
