[MERGED] Bring back colored /me chat messages + Update the /me command to color chat messages FOR MODS/BROADCASTER ROLES ONLY
Or at least give streamers the authority to enable or disable it. But the ENTIRE point was how it stood out with color. Plain black with italics just renders it useless.
Hey all,
Thank you for the patience with us on this. This has been one of the most popular ideas on UserVoice and we definitely heard your feedback.
Today we launched /announcement for mods and streamers. Announcements can be used in chat to highlight a message and are available in 4 different colors along with the channel accent color. Because this is only part of the ask of this idea we are setting this idea to partial release so the community can continue to leave feedback on this.

Similar to the changes in the Leaderboard display, existing account should stay as-is, and new account could be off or whatever community consultation desires as a default.
Then everyone has the option to switch it whichever way vibes with their community.

Have it turned off by Default for all streamers. But give us the option to turn it back on. This would please all the crowds and give us, the content creators, the control.

As @hyacsho wrote: "then streamers can customize the experience as per our community and chat needs".
This change indicates that Twitch believe we all act and think the same. There was no accounting for the uniqueness in which channels utilise the /me command in different ways.
Twitch may just really hate the flair of such things as the rainbow raids, bot responses, and the LGBT+ communities.

There has been some comments by a people regarding color blindness. Some say it was better as it was, and some say it is better now.
It sounds like the issue requires a re-skin of the whole interface and proper consultation under broader piece of work. It's not something that a rash solution discussed here can properly address.
There would be experts who could help Twitch with special color blindness interface.

my voice is being lost in the wave lines. I said that italic is not a good idea as it not off putting, I said bold would be better with the default text as it would stand out. ALSO i said going back to color is a bad idea that mean the color the username is set to, because of color blindness.
I said that if it was bold and black it would stand out better, I said that because the text would not work in itialic (not going into detail) because the text is size 6 or 7. and that italic is only good for magazines, flyers, posters, Banners and not good for Newspapers, Website so on. I also said that purple, red, green, blue yellow are not good idea because of color blindness.
I get that this talks about the /me command but to go back WOULD create more abuse by moderators and the trolling community.

Why not give us a chat settings option in the Creator Dashboard, then streamers can customize the experience as per our community and chat needs.

I would suggest checking for automod terms such as donate* {{stem:gift}} {{stem:cheer}} etc, instead of crippling the /me command.
"Safety" could be preserved by holding the message if it is attempted in a /me message by a non-Mod.
"Fake donations" could also be an Automod category for normal chat messages as well. People may still use "Fake donation" messages with normal colors - Italics still look special, and there are other ways spammers make messages look special such as by using Box-drawing characters to force spam onto its own line.
Also, create a special background message highlight for moderators and provide access to mods using a /notice command. -

HOW WAS IT ABUSED? LIKE HOW?

MercuryBullet commented
If the main issue with the /me command was the donation messages, why not add a clause preventing that exact phrasing for specifically the /me command.
Or better yet, let the streamer decide themselves which combination of words can't be "/me"-ed.If it's for the seeing impaired, I feel like you should work on the interface for color blind or seeing impaired as a special mode instead.
But please do add it back. -

Don't remove or "improve" a feature everyone relies on on an hourly basis. Just make /me for the Streamer and Mods colored as before and everyone else gets italic and we're fine.
Also, for the love of everything, can you put a vote or just something our there for content creatos to actually voice their opinion on these changes BEFORE everyone has to loose their ****. It's driving creators crazy and away.

as a registered blind user i do find the /me colour harder to see, if i dont hear my tts right.. as iv cognative skills issues this does happen.. but i cant read the italic text at all as a person who also has dsylexia wich makes reading italics imposible..
im not sure how changing from coloured text to italic text is going to help provent abusive coments.. as the comment will still be the same weather its in colour or not..
as i cant use tts in streams i watch the new italics are really unhelpful from a vision point of view too.. i dont think it would be fair to make it a redemption as that would mean new views could not have colour in there raid message and others would.. wich again will create friction.. or comments like your raid message is in colour im not paying points for colour.. or i cant afford the points i dont have enough points so wont raid..
to be honest iv yet to see an abusive message in /me formate.. usually they r just typed out in the many chats iv been in.. and the chat i mod and or r vip in..
please reconsider and bring back the colour to /me text..
thanks..

I just really want my bot (that I've spend hours on) to get back to writing colored text in the chat again so I can tell the difference from chat and commands, I loved that feature. I've never in my life have I had problems with misreading someone trying to act like they donated or something? Plus even if that happened, I would be quick to take it as a joke, I can't possibly comprehend how someone would take that seriously and be mad about it. However, if it's for the betterment of the community, sure, keep it this way then. But at least give us the option to change color of the text our mods write (like bots) that would be nice. Thanks in advance.

Allow it as an option, so we have something like /me that becomes italic and /color to have text in color but only useable by mods if we want

Ändert /me wieder auf farbig ... das mit kursiv macht doch überhaupt keinen sinn es mit /me auszulösen

florian4711 commented
