Fix chat disconnect when using a VPN
When streaming using my VPN, my chat constantly disconnects and reconnects. This does not happen when VPN is off, and is not actually a connection issue as I never drop frames. I could ignore the constant spamming of "welcome to the chat room" but the problem is that I miss chats from my community. Being a small streamer, this is unacceptable as I read and respond to everyone. Being a female streamer, turning off my VPN is not an option. I do understand that twitch is trying to do something about people using VPN's to get around channel bans. But your content creators need to be able to use VPN's without it interfering with your site, for their own safety.

I found using Nord's double vpn feature resolves this issue for me.

For those who still have this problem I may have a solution for you. Under split tunneling in nordvpn settings, add the obs.exe & obs browser page.exe under plugins and you should stop getting the reconnect issue.
If you don't knower where OBS is installed right-click icon, properties and target will have location of where it is installed.

Hello here.
I don't know if it's luck or the solution... But...
i use Surf Shark, and i put my connection VPN with a FixIp / Static IP and look OK and i don't have anymore Disconnection of Twitch tchat every 30 sec ( On my stream or on tchat streamer)
Maybe you can try it.

I found this Reddit post and the 'EDIT' is the solution. It solved this exact issue for me.

I've had the same problem as well. I don't have a big enough channel to have mods and they would make it not such a big deal. This hurts small streamers.

Same exact issue here! Just started using NordVPN for additional safety while streaming (after getting DDOS'd during a stream) and now I'm constantly getting spammed with "Welcome to the chat room!" every 30 seconds and missing tons of viewer comments.

I also use NordVPN because I am a female streamer...Please Twitch find a way to keep us safe without compromising our chats. Female streamers are generating enough revenue to make this a priority.

I'm using Surf Shark and its happening with me. I had to disable it to stop it happening. What is it about the chat box that is causing this?

I recently got Nord VPN and am also having this problem. This is directly affecting my ability to interact with chat, half the time I ask them a question and then have no clue if they responded or not. Certain games have had an increase in DDOS attacks so I'd really like to continue protecting myself.

Same happens for me with NORD VPN, please fix this! 😢 We should not have to pick between feeling safe at out job or properly reading messages of our viewers.

I'd just like to quickly add that JayEff87's tip of using PIA worked for me. I was trying to use Surfshark and for some reason couldn't maintain a connection with Twitch chat servers. No issues with PIA so far!

I am also having this issue with Surfshark, and I am not sure how to fix it. I have tried whitelisting many IP addresses and domains related to Twitch and its chat functions, and sometimes it works.. But sometimes it does not. I am not sure what the factor is.

I think this issue is nordvpn specific and I've found a reddit thread from a year ago that which had the same issue. I don't think anyone cares to fix this... I used PIA for 2 years and never had this issue, so you could try switching to PIA...

Agreed. I don't think that the chat connection fix is so difficult task for video streaming platform.
