Provide closed captioning for ALL channels, not just affiliate and partner
I like the previously posted idea, but no accessibility features should ever be locked as rewards behind achievements. Folks shouldn’t need to be affiliated or partners to provide captioning to their audiences.
Hi! I am hard of hearing (almost deaf) in both ears, and I can't hear anything! Something that would be helpful would be automated closed captions. It hears what the streamer is saying and translates it - not necessarily accurately, but still allows me to enjoyably watch streams!
This feature would be nice to have on twitch. Example it would be if it is possible a moveable box that u can move anywhere on the webpage or video or even stationary and would provide translated language in to english or other u languages u send.
i aint streaming until this happens
make an option to disactivate your sound and use capitations for your own stream
Hello Twitch, please add subtitles options to creator's streams so other people in the deaf community like me can enjoy the content provided on there
I am writing to ask you if it is possible to insert automatically generated subtitles to live and videos played on your (beautiful) platform?
If this option does not yet exist, will it be possible in the future to have it?
I am a deaf boy implanted with hearing difficulties and for this reason I never fully understand the speeches made.
While the Live shows of the Facebook platform have already had this option for some time, it would be great to have it also on a truly TOP platform like yours!
Empatia é a palavra.
is there other way for add close captions for deaf gamer so hearing people can understand?
Until this is implemented, some resources include:
OBS Studio closed captions third-party plugin: https://github.com/ratwithacompiler/OBS-captions-plugin
Open captions: https://webcaptioner.com/
A link I found: https://sites.google.com/view/livestreamcaptions/
I would like to see Twitch become a more accessible place. One way to do this is to have live closed captions on every video, no matter language or status. Of course, providing official captions is impossible for some channels. To remedy this, I would like to see the implementation of automatic/auto-generated captions. This would resolve the issue for people who do not have a person or software to provide the captions. Then, people could choose between that and whatever official captions the channel provides.
YouTube is starting to provide automatic captioning to channels above 1k subscribers. Facebook already has it. There are even a few third-party OBS Studio plugins which use already made transcribers such as Google and Microsoft text-to-speech: https://github.com/ratwithacompiler/OBS-captions-plugin . It would be great to have it right in the platform instead of some software that not everyone can handle.
It would also be cool to give the already existing extensions a chance to provide closed captions as well. Maybe they could even become a "caption" rather than just an overlay, component, panel and/or mobile extension.
Furthermore, instead of the Closed Captioning Stream Tag, there should be a Closed Captioning Automatic Tag to denote which channels have live closed-captioning. The Closed Captioning Stream Tag could then be replaced with a Captions, to include open and closed captions.
However it may be, adding auto-generated live closed captions to every piece of media would be a great help to those who are unable to hear the audio.
Sorry for my english i'm french, but can you install an AI who subtitle what the streamer say ?
Hello! Me and my friend was thinking about how great would be if Twitch provide something to help those who hasn't the hability of hearing. We've found a way to caption what we are saying live (we are using Twitch Subtitles by PubNub) but we need something else to help us to communicate the audience that our channel is for EVERYONE. Something like a tag on the description. "Audio transcription enabled" would do the job. With time and engagement enough to prove to everyone that there are people in this condition who are interested in our content, we should make this more visible! Some kind of highlight or a special place where deaf people can know which channels are streamming using features to provide them the best experience as possible. We are aware that there are so many people interested in watch streamers in this huge community, but unfortunatelly, as it is on all other social media, the deaf people doesn't have enough support. Me and my friend are about to create a moviment to include all of those people! We are starting this this week. Wish us luck!
All streamers and watchers need the option to click CLOSED CAPTIONS. Accessibility is an issue too many platforms struggle with. English closed captions, but ideally ALL spoken languages captioned!
It would be really awesome if Twitch could add integrated CC, with a setup guide for how to connect in that's easy to find and follow for streamers, that can be turned off or on similar to how YouTube does it, or allow the viewer to set where they want the CC to be, or have it work like a news ticker just below the video. People using CC should not have to compromise stream quality and game view in the name of accessibility.
This has been one of the best close captioning apps I've seen that uses twitches native close captioning (link at the end of this comment) - however, even using captions on twitch through twitch's own system, we still have to manually add the tag? I wish the tag was added automatically if it recognizes that we are using captions.
I would like to see a future where every stream has captions. Accessibility is needed
If YouTube can provide captions for videos, and Instagram can provide captions, how hard would it be to actually provide live captions or even just more accessiblity for blind or hard of hearing viewers? You removed the tag "blind playthrough" so as not to offend blind viewers, and yet, you do not make streams accessible for them. Instead of virtue signals, how about some actual accommodation?
Just dropping to say this is one we as streamers can be addressing without waiting for Twitch to add more features. There's a great website here: https://sites.google.com/view/livestreamcaptions/home which details various methods of adding computer generated captions. The method I use involves a plugin for OBS, and sends captions to Twitch's integrated caption feature, allowing it to be adjusted through settings for that feature & also leaves captions in the VOD. There is also a Closed Captions tag on Twitch to use after setting one of these options up, which I have gotten feedback from deaf/hard of hearing viewers that they search for streams using the tag.
That said: Still up voting this and would encourage others to do the same because having more, higher quality and easier to implement accessibility options would definitely improve things + lead to more streams with captions. Just wanted to put in about the current third party options so people checking this post can find & implement them in the meantime.
Hi! I'm Kris of rozenkris14! Rose and I both would like there to be more accessibility options available to smaller streamers and to viewers. We both recognize that closed captioning is helpful to the deaf/hearing impaired but it's only accessible to affiliates and partners. We also understand that closed captioning isn't the greatest in it's current state, but, we would like to be as inclusive as possible to our viewers, and we are pretty sure other people feel the same way. Thank you, Kriskristen14 and Rosekoi of rozenkris14
It would be great, not just for the hearing impaired or those with auditory processing disorders. I've been in a chat before where it was simply everyone subtitling because someone was having a hard time understanding or keeping up.
This should not be so difficult. I have spent hours trying to configure CC into my streams. My viewers should not have to struggle to understand my streams. No viewers should. If you're not going to add CC anytime soon, PLEASE create a guide for configuring the overlay for small streamers!
