Shared License Model for Anime and Movies: Streamer-funded library and temporary viewer passes
I propose a new monetization and licensing model that allows streamers to legally broadcast anime and movies, inspired by how platforms like Crunchyroll started, while solving copyright issues. How it would work:Streamer/Community-Funded Licenses: Creators interested in broadcasting licensed content could opt into a special program. The licensing costs could be covered via a monthly creator fee or an upgraded, higher-tier subscription cost for that specific channel. As the community grows and contributes, the available catalog of legally streamable anime/movies expands.
Temporary/Casual Viewer Passes: For casual viewers who only want to watch a specific movie night or a brief marathon, Twitch could implement "1-Day" or "1-Week" event passes. This allows occasional users to legally access the broadcast without committing to a full monthly subscription.
Copyright Cost Reduction: While licensing requires an initial investment, this system could drastically reduce Twitch's overhead costs in automated copyright strikes (DMCA takedowns), moderation, and legal disputes, shifting the ecosystem toward a profitable, legal, and shared-revenue model.
