Set email or push notifications when a channel goes live in a specific category, or with specific tags.
As a viewer, I would like to be able to receive a push notification when any streamer goes live in a certain category, or with certain tags, or both! I love finding new streamers to watch, and this would help me discover more of them.
Oftentimes, there are less popular games or categories which will have low numbers of viewers, who are very dedicated to that category. If I'm a viewer who loves an older game, I would have no idea that someone new has decided to try that game unless I already followed them (or happened to be browsing the "Discover" page at that exact moment). If I could instead set a custom push notification for myself, that would pull me in to watch when I otherwise might not have.
I know the Tags system is currently in flux as well, but I'd love if I could set a push notification for when someone goes live with certain tags, too! For example, highly specific tags relating to certain types of speedruns, gameplay formats, accessibility features, or other demographics.
Ideally, I'd want to set custom push notifications for a Category (without Tags), Category with tags, or Tags without Category!

As game developer I would really want this, too. And personally there's also some games rarely played that I would love to follow.

something this easy should've been a feature YEARS ago... Please make this one already!

I also want to be able to activate alerts for when random people go live in a game. Yesterday someone I don't know streamed Frogger and I wish I had known to watch live.

Can we please get notification options for Followed Categories already?
Manually checking and refreshing should not be the only way to catch someone streaming specific rarely-played games.

I would like to avoid certain games streamed by users I'm following (and/or whom I'm subscribed to), but I do not want to have to unfollow streamers or entirely disable notifications from followed and/or subscribed streamers as a whole.
This can be quite difficult to avoid especially on the mobile app, because the stream notification will not always give hints on what game the streamer will be playing.

Provide more granular alerts. So when a particular game is streamed by someone you follow you'll be notified. For example, I love Words On Stream (WOS). But "go live" alerts typically aren't helpful to me because few stream WOS exclusively or predominantly. I imagine that's the case with others who are interested in only specific games played by variety streamers.

I know this post is old, but can we please get this feature. It would be good all around. Smaller streamers could get more attention, viewers can get to watch their favorite games that nobody streams, and twitch could potentially have more variety overall. Instead of 90% of the viewerbase in just the top 10 categories.

The ability to set notifications for people you follow based on category or date. Sometimes a channel will be a collaboration between multiple people or it's just one person that happens to stream a lot of different stuff and you don't want your notifications flooded with things your not interested in. So say for instance you have a notification setting set so that you will only be notified when the streamer is doing "Just chatting" streams or a stream for a particular game or if you have a setting set so that you only get notifications from a person you follow if it's on a particular day. Some streamers have schedules for certain content in which they might stream mostly regular games during the weekday, and on Saturday through Monday they stream different games that are more attuned to the kinda content you like. So you could have a little calendar pop up for individual channels and you can set which days you would like to be notified about streams and which days you wouldn't.

Often, I want to follow a streamer only for certain games/categories they stream, such as following artists only for their Art and Just Chatting streams but not their gaming streams, or I might just not want to see anyone playing certain games, no matter how much I like that streamer otherwise (e.g. to avoid spoilers or just because I have no interest in it). Notifications for streams I have no interest in just distract and annoy me, and lead to me either unfollowing the streamers or ignoring them so much that Twitch stops sending them.
While I think that opting *in* to categories would be too harmful to streamers and discourage them from trying new things, I think it would be great if viewers could opt *out* of notifications for specific categories. I think the fairest and simplest way (UI-wise) would be to have it as a global setting, so that you could avoid notifications for categories you're never interested in seeing.

I can't stand watching certain games. This is something most everyone can agree with. We all have our specific tastes and they're always changing.
More notification customization for mobile, email, etc, would be a fantastic expansion to the current customization options. If you don't like to watch a certain game, then you should have the option to disable getting a notification for that game or even a specific tag that game falls under.

Or support the streamers no matter what game they are playing. Problem solved

I think it would be cool if I had additional notifications setup options on streamers to only notify me if the streamer is playing a certain game or a game from a list of games. This would be optional settings. This could also be a good statistic for streamers to look at. Seeing how many viewers deliberately watch their stream for certain games/IRL/creative.

I second this but would also wish for you to be able to get notifications when someone in a community goes live. For both the default notification setting should be set to no notifications but I would really love to know when people in my community or people who play the game my community is about go live!

So you ever have those times where someone you follow goes live, and you get the email for it "Chrisissoawesome just went live!," but you go to their stream and it's nothing you care about. Well, what if there was a way to select what streams you get notified for, depending on factors such as keyword in stream title or the game being played?
In my case, I'm a small streamer who does Zelda speedruns and does game development. These are two completely different fanbases and I've actually lost some followers who followed me for game development because they got tired of getting notified for my speedruns.
The only way to do this is to have 2 accounts (which I am doing right now) and it's just a hassle. Just a suggestion. (:

We can currently either turn notifications on or off for a channel we follow. But I would like the option to turn notifications on for a channel only if they are playing a certain game.
For example, if I follow a channel because I loved watching them play Overwatch, I want to receive notifications when they go live with Overwatch, but not when they decide to play a different game

Right now you can follow channels and get notifications when they go live. You can't, however, get notifications when games that you follow go live.
This will be very helpful for those looking to watch streams of smaller, less popular games

I currently have to open the email if I want to know if the streamer is playing a certain game. The title of the email reads 'playername just went live on Twitch'. I'd like the title to read 'playername just went live on Twitch playing game_name_here' without having to look inside.
Maybe an option for it in settings, for those who prefer?
