Official Feature Request for Twitch UserVoiceTitle:Introduce a 30-Day Maximum Limit for Channel and Link Bans with Automatic ExpirationCategory:Chat / Moderation ToolsThe Proposal:Update Twitch’s moderation infrastructure so that the absolute maximum penalty a streamer or channel moderator can issue to a viewer for chat or link privileges is a temporary 30-day ban, completely replacing permanent channel-level bans [about-bans-blocking-and-suspensions].Why This Feature is Crucial:Enforces Meaningful Reflection Time: A 30-day cap on both chat and link privileges serves as a strict penalty. It forces the viewer to cool down, reflect on their behavior, and review the channel guidelines before regaining their privileges.Fixes Broken and Forgotten Appeals: Streamers and moderators often forget to review old ban records or unban appeal backlogs. Twitch currently only allows a user to submit a single unban appeal [about-bans-blocking-and-suspensions]. If it is ignored or accidentally denied, the viewer is permanently locked out. An automatic 30-day expiration ensures a broken appeal loop never results in a lifetime ban.Protects Against One-Time Mistakes: Loyal viewers who accidentally misread a channel rule, send a single bad chat message, or post a forbidden link during a heated stream are currently punished with lifetime exclusion. A 30-day maximum limit ensures a single mistake results in a fair warning period rather than permanent exile.Maintains Flexible Penalty Scaling: Streamers do not have to use the full 30 days. They can issue lighter penalties (like a 1, 3, or 7-day ban) for minor offenses, reserving the full 30 days for major disruptions.Instant Error Correction: Streamers and moderators retain the absolute right to manually unban a user at any point during the 30-day window if a bot or human moderator makes an instant ban by mistake.Reduces Ban Evasion and Burner Accounts: Permanent lifetime bans leave users with nothing to lose, heavily motivating them to create new "burner" accounts. A capped 30-day ban encourages users to wait out their penalty on their main account, reducing the volume of ban evaders.Retroactive Relief for Past Mistakes: Upon launch, this feature should automatically apply to all existing channel bans. Any user who has already been banned for 30 days or more will have their restriction instantly lifted, immediately clearing out years of forgotten ban records.Preserves Site-Wide Safety: For extreme, malicious, or continuous harassment, creators can still report the account directly to Twitch Safety Operations for a site-wide indefinite suspension.
