Request for a Dedicated “Freestyle Rap / Improv” Category on Twitch
Description:
Freestyle rap has been an active, evolving, and highly engaging form of live content on Twitch—long before the pandemic sparked a wave of digital creativity. I personally launched my freestyle series in December 2019 under the name Scessions, and since then, the community has exploded.
Freestyling is not just a genre—it’s a live artform that combines music, improv, community engagement, and creativity in real-time. It blends well with Twitch’s interactive spirit and deserves its own official category to increase discoverability, support creators, and grow a thriving culture.
Why This Matters:
This isn’t a hopeful concept—it’s a living movement with dozens of active freestylers streaming regularly. Here are just a few examples of freestyle streamers making waves:

(Me) Scessions
DarwinRaps
MX South Africa
BaronXOfficial
ThrowedGenji
Erawadi
SoulBoof
Existence130
TowardsNight
InsomniacRap
Harry Mack
Flow Lucci
Dapper the Rapper
BKNEXT
Almal

A lot have started because of the music category but only do freestyle and a lot of fans love it...Harry Mack alone has brought huge visibility to live freestyle as a content genre, showing that it has both reach and retention.
Many of us mix word generators, audience prompts, live beat switches, and

Twitch-integrated games to create real-time shows that aren’t represented properly in any existing category. Currently, freestyle content is scattered across “Just Chatting,” “Music,” or even mislabeled entirely.
Proposed Category Name:
Freestyle Rap / Improv

What This Fixes:
Increases discoverability for freestyle creators and fans
Makes it easier for Twitch to feature, promote, or measure the genre
Gives legitimacy to an artform that’s thriving on your platform
Encourages collaboration and innovation within a clearer niche

Suggested Rules (Optional):
Must be original, improvised lyrical performance
Live performance should be central to the stream
Usage of beats, loops, or chat interaction is encouraged

This category wouldn’t just organize us—it would amplify a growing Twitch-native genre that has already proven its staying power. Please consider adding a “Freestyle Rap / Improv” category so the community can flourish even further.
