Add Disability Month Front Page Features
Twitch does an excellent job curating teams and featuring marginalized creators on the front page during identity based pride months. However, I've never seen one of these happen for disabled creators which I believe is a big missed opportunity.
Being a content creator as a disabled person adds a whole host of additional challenges, such as navigating algorithms that favor consistency with inconsistent bodies. Finding games and programs that are accessible for us for streaming, etc.
I would love to see Twitch uplift the hardworking disabled creators by also hosting a Disability Pride Month and highlighting disabled creators the way they do with Black History Month, AAPI month, LGBTQIA+ month, etc.
Please make it happen!!
As a disabled content creator myself I think it's a shame twitch hasn't implemented this yet. I hope twitch sees this & does better.
Considering the rise of Twitch during the start and height of the COVID pandemic, which was a mass disabling event for pretty much the entire world, it's incredibly disheartening to see Twitch disregard this suggestion for another year.
So many of the streamers still going on this platform are disabled and offer such a unique experience to viewers you can't truly find anywhere else. There are so many disabled creators who - against the odds - have made and succeeded at their Partner pushes. They boost this platform at greater cost to themselves in comparison to their able-bodied counterparts.
It may be too late this year to get something going, but surely a response from Twitch staff that something will be in the works next year is not too much to ask? We deserve recognition. Recognition aids our validity, and means more people get an education on things we don't get the room to to in person.
I am a disabled content creator too (autism, HOH, and multiple sclerosis). I would also love to see Twitch uplift the hardworking disabled creators by also hosting a Disability Pride Month and highlighting disabled creators the way they do with Black History Month, AAPI month, LGBTQIA+ month, etc.
Response to the most recent comment: Disability Pride Month is the official name of the commemoration of Disabled people in July since 1990 because of the anniversary of the ADA. It’s not random. One individual not feeling pride in their disability is valid but it doesn’t negate that many do and should be free to do so.
Highlighting disabled creators is absolutely good, and twitch already has a day for it (maybe campaign to expand that?), but calling it "Disability Pride Month" is downright offensive to most disabled people. I have no shame in my disability, or the fact that I need help with things neurotypicals would find very basic, but I sure ain't proud of it. Insinuating as much is a bit disgusting.
Absolutely necessary and should've been a thing by now??? I find that in this day and age with Accessibility being at the forefront of so many companies especially, that a platform like Twitch would offer more features, as well as showcasing and supporting us in the community of living with disabilities on the front page the same way others do. Challenges of all kinds impact people everywhere and a lot aren't apparent either. It's important for all of us to feel included and highlight the community as we try to keep the conversation going, bring awareness while also living with such challenges and creating content and engaging with our streaming community as well. Visibility matters.
I would love to highlight the incredible disabled creators that I've gotten the chance to know and love. They deserve to be known and seen across the entire platform!
this is necessary!
Visibility is so important!!! We need to be included!!
definitely needs to be a thing! We struggle daily with out limitations that we cannot control. it would be nice for some recognition as other minorities do.
Absolutely needs to be a thing
This absolutely needs to be a thing! The reality is that probably an above average amount of users, especially streamers have some kind of disability and the platform needs to acknoledge us. Frankly a month of celebration is the bare minimum!
This absolutely must and should be a thing. Frankly, it's odd to me that it's not.
This needs to be a thing
WOULD LOVE THIS!!
Give it to uuusssssssss
autism awareness that isnt autism speaks isnt talked about enouhg and needs to be talked about just any other day is
