Unmerge All Remakes in the Directory
With a recent update, Twitch merged all remakes of games in the directory with its original game for whatever reason. Now remakes of popular franchises such as Legend of Zelda, Resident Evil, etc. are all fighting over visibility in the same directory. This is also a problem for remakes of games that have completely different names from its original game, such as Kirby Nightmare in Dream Land, the remake of Kirby's Adventure for NES released on GBA, who's directory is now completely gone because ????
I don't understand what the point of this change is. There was absolutely nothing wrong with remakes having their own game in the directory before, and now people who want to watch the remake of a game have to scroll through streams of the original game to find someone streaming the remake! Not to mention everyone following the remake on Twitch have to now follow the original to hopefully find people streaming the remake, which is just asinine. Furthermore, you can still stream to the directory of the remake, but it won't show up when you search the game itself any more. Seriously, who does this benefit? Remakes are the same game but entirely different in function and modernized at the time for a new audience. They are not supposed to be 1:1 with the original game, but merging the two games together like this says that you think otherwise in my eyes. What's next? Getting rid of the Crash and Spyro remake trilogies because there's directories for Crash and Spyro 1-3 already?
Twitch, I'm begging you, please reverse this change. As a speedrunner, visibility in the directory is everything, and now anyone who speedruns a remake will be getting less of it because they'll be fighting for it all in one category. I really just do not see the logic behind doing this at all, and I hope my reasoning makes sense here to whoever can make the decision to reverse it.
Update: we are now able to support a handful of new game types from IGDB, including remakes, remasters, expanded games, and forks – all new game types that have been introduced on IGDB (see the updated documentation at https://github.com/twitchtv/igdb-contribution-guidelines/wiki/Type)
This means that we can now restore nearly all of the titles that have been reported missing in this suggestion, and we are working to do so!
Thank you for your feedback and patience! We will close this suggestion for now, but please feel free to open new suggestions if there are additional games that you find are missing!

This also applies to "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles". There are 5 different games under IGDB with that title, but on the Twitch side, they are just 2 Categories for those games....very confusing.

i hope you realize that multiple ENTIRE COMMUNITIES will not stream on twitch or at most will be completely undiscoverable until this change is reverted and the deleted categories are brought back

This choice has resulted in pure confusion and makes Twitch feel less complete as a whole. Some users want to watch remakes while others prefer originals, and it is very difficult to search through all the streaming channels to find the content you would like.

This among other frustrating decisions is making me consider seeking out alternatives to twitch more often. I don't like it when I don't know if someone is playing the actual game the title says anymore or if it's a remake. To the corporate drone who doesn't actually play games, everything may seem the same to them, but people who actually play these games and watch them, the game version really DOES matter. And don't you think streamers get a little tired of having to answer the question "is this X version of the game or Y version? Or Z version? Or some other version that twitch deleted for no discernible reason."
Just because mixer is gone doesn't mean twitch is invincible. All the big sites die after continuous stupid mistakes.

Not sure if this is related, but in case it is, Resident Evil Revelations 2 is gone as well. I can only add the first one if I'm ever playing the sequel? What gives?
This really needs to be reverted in all honesty.

Please update us on this issue. It's one of the most requested changes in the entire uservoice program, please don't just throw this to the wayside.

there is a tournament starting today in Super Mario 64 DS and we have no idea how to tell speedgaming there is no category for the game we're playing

@mouse can we get an update on what you looked into? All this change does is hurt people and make discoverability nearly impossible for certain games.

It's not a monopoly, it just thinks it is.

yeah lol Twitch is such an obscenely-unethical monopoly

They didn't really merge the categories, they simply deleted them, leaving thousands of videos and clips now with "no game", reducing visibility period. And the most hilarious thing is that they merged all the separate "unmerged this series" topics into one general "unmerge" category on here. It's almost comedic if it weren't so frustrating.
But in the end, this isn't priority to twitch. No, what's priority is that they're trying to circumvent adblockers so they can reinstate midroll ads. Because priorities.

Yeah it almost feels like, at this point, that official message was just to make us think they were doing something cause we haven't heard anything since. Like YEAH WE'RE TOTALLY LOOKING INTO IT *doesn't look into it*
We've all provided plenty of ways to better handle remakes, namely "keep them separate cause they are separate games" and yet... nothing. Can we get an update @mouse please?

So, it took them a couple weeks to unnecessarily merge everything but over a month later there's still no news? Nice.

I probably don't have anything new to add, but I find it really frustrating that because of this change NOBODY seems to be playing the originals of many of the games recently remade because the category is so drowned out. Tomb Raider 1 was already a game that needed all the help it could get but now it's just gone again (it took a long time to even get its own category to begin with), but now both the original and Anniversary are drowned out by the reboot.
Resident Evil 1, 2, and 3 are all dead (some of the best horror games of all time) because of the insane popularity of the remakes. If there is anyone streaming them, then they aren't nearly easy enough to find. The insanity of this is that there was absolutely no reason for anybody, big or small, no matter what the game, to ask for this. NOBODY wanted this. Whoever decided this change needed to be made should at the very least never be allowed to give input on game categories again. I know it sounds harsh, but it's just such an ill-informed decision that it reminds of something EA would do.

Getting rid of the Halo: The Master Chief Collection also was a big mistake considering that with multiplayer & cross-game playlists things can change before we could even ATTEMPT to change our game being played. Great for people who play one specific game, but for those of us who like to change things up it makes it significantly harder as a streamer and affects our discoverability.

Crash Bandicoot N-sane trilogy is not simply one game. It's a trilogy of three games. The 'disappearance' (It is still in the list, just not usable) of the n-sane trilogy makes me change the game every time I switch from crash 1 to 2 or 3.

They are completely different games. The community may be smaller, but it is still active aside from SM64.

This issue is affecting Stepmania, notITG, Etterna, and more Stepmania-derived games, forcing the communities to be classified under the one Stepmania category. Etterna is a keyboard focused rhythm game client and has its own sizable completely independent community from Stepmania and notITG, which are meant more for casual, arcade, pad, or otherwise differently focused gameplay compared to Etterna.
Forcing these communities to be under one blanket category makes sorting through streams difficult or annoying, not only due to the similarity in the visual appearance of notITG and Stepmania in some cases, but also because the keyboard/competition community of Etterna is not looking for that type of content at all and vice-versa. That being said, notITG is also still deserving of a category independent from Stepmania like Etterna had because it offers more specific for-show type features for a small set of gamemodes, while Stepmania simply aims to emulate the experience of most known or existing arcade-type vertically scrolling rhythm games the best it can.

Tomb Raider: Anniversary and Tomb Raider 2013 are no longer existing on the current game list, despite the fact that TR:A, while a reimagining, is completely different from the original game in every way. And Tomb Raider 2013 is not a remake at all, but in fact its own game entirely sharing nothing similar with the original game beyond the name of the protagonist.

This just makes people who speedrun remakes have to fight that much harder to been seen, please just undo this change. Zelda remake speedrunners generally tend to be running the less popular game, so making them compete with the original just makes it harder for people to find and watch. It makes it harder to grow when people have to look that much harder to find you.
