Designated category for Creative Writing and related content
Ranging from writing and discussing novels, to poetry, scripts, comics, article editing, tabletop campaign planning, world creation, etc. There are a wide array of people doing various forms of creative writing on twitch, (Counted 53 channels so far, still working on finding more) and often it's hard to decide between "Creative" "Art" or "Just Chatting". Currently all we have to search for similar content is the "Writing" tag, which some of the broader definitions are hesitant to use, and is also used by people writing computer code, which is honestly a very different type of content despite it's visual similarities.
A category for this would seriously help us to find content and be found by the wider community of storytelling or wordsmithing fans that use twitch, as well as make it easier for twitches algorithm to identify what we watch. (I am often recommended visual art streams because I watch a lot of writers that use the art category, but never recommended any writing channels, and others I have spoken to experience the same)

A writers area is a nice spot to have. True writing is not the most active sport. But many viewers love to sit back and relax too. It isn't all Animals in Pools and Gaming.
There is also a whole art side and writing is an art. -

Let's be honest, we don't have a place on twitch. We are not hot tub streamers, we are not licking Mics, we are not bringing in tens of thousands of dollars per stream for twitch... They don't care about us.

We've already been able to have tags that would fit well enough. Missing a coordinated category means that writers are still going to be dispersed among many "well I guess I'll stream over here" - Just Chatting, "Writers" (indie game), "Let's do the Writing", etc.
Not that I won't use the tags to help find writers in general, but the category is necessary to show we have a place here on twitch. There's several hundred streaming writers on Twitch - we deserve a place.

Hi! Did everyone get the announcement that Thursday August 11 we will be able to define our own tags instead of just picking from a list?
It's not a category but I propose we all standardize on CreativeWriting as a tag and add it to our profiles on the 11th. We can of course add others to further describe what we do but having a single tag we agree on can help search for other writers.
Are you in?

I really wish Twitch would add a category. We'd grow so much faster! Overall, it'd be awesome.

There is a category on Twitch called “Writers.” It’s listed as an indie game and it doesn’t have a cute thumbnail, but it is there.
From what I’ve heard, Twitch is gauging interest in an officially designated Writing category by watching this particular “game.” If we get more and more people using it, maybe we’ll finally get what we’ve been asking for.

I'm still amazed this isn't a thing, I use art and get drowned out because it's not really the right place to stream - Just Chatting doesn't work either for it

There will be no implementation of this purely due to the amount of viewers at a time. I struggle to find more than 5 people streaming with a viewer count of 20.
Software Development only recently got its own category, and that has thousands of viewers. -

im surprised this hasnt been implemented since the last time i was here ... a common category would make it easier for us to support each other as a community, esp when trying to find new streamers to raid

this is extremely needed, especially to differentiate writers who also do artwork, or other creative activities such as the makers & crafters, from when they do writing.
but most importantly, it lets the greater twitch community know that there are people working creatively in writing, not just co-working or just chatting, or the art mega-category. it lets our followers know what our actual content is while browsing.
this is the same as if a streamer were playing a specific game - skyrim isn't clumped under "adventure games", it's listed as skyrim. if such a broad, mega-category (adventure games) was used, it could also include the following games: raft, forza horizon 4, ark: survival evolved, lego starwars, red dead redemption 2, and the final fantasy series. if i'm looking for skyrim, i don't want zombies or car chases.
it's the same for creatives. people want to know what the content is that they're watching, without it being a vague mega-category. if we're looking for creative writers (which is still a large overarching description), we're looking for storytellers, worldbuilders, poets, novelists, storyboarding, and possibly content readings/open mic (as well as a long list not mentioned).
if we're artists, looking to raid and follow other artists, it's frustrating to wind up in a stream about writing or pomodoro writing where you don't understand most of the terminology and you just wanted to watch art and connect to other artists; but the streamer raided into an art (category) stream that was actually writing. i've seen the raided stream lose lots of viewers, because it wasn't even close to what they were previously watching.
let creatives (of all types) find what we're looking for with less frustration and tedium.

Two years on and nothing? I just upvoted. It must not be that hard or painful to implement this. Please?

Of course there should be tags for music creators! Keep in mind that Lyrics is a category of its own and shouldn't be lumped in with Composing and Music Writing and Song Writing -- All of which would be great categories!

Add music related tags also please, like song writing...but I know it will never happen. 1000 votes, 2 years.

This is my favourite idea on this site.
The recommendation is 2 years old.
Is there anything else we can all do here? -

This would be a great category! I want to write short stories on stream(because I don't want to leak my novel projects haha) and it would be a great way to connect with other writers and exchange writing habits and ideas, maybe even form writing groups!

I have been using streaming to help myself and others get work done (i.e. homework assignments, essays, etc.) and I would appreciate not having to use just chatting to stream that, since it really doesn't fit there, but doesnt fit anywhere else either.

Okay, I'm hoping to writing some random stories there. How would you type it for out in category?
