A new category : Twitch Education
Twitch should be allowed to be a place not just for entertainment, but also for learning and education. People who wants to stream educational content are currently not allowed to participate on Twitch, unless they are artists or programmers. Twitch is one of the largest streaming services, and while there is plenty of educational material on the internet, there is a lack of interactive, free to use services for interactive classes. Twitch could become a fantastic plattform for students, teachers and groups who wants to learn in a more interactive environment, that they can't get with other learning resources on the internet.
My content is specifically just my students and I learning about topics together. This would help out people who teach and want to show different topics rather than just Science and Technology. Its a win win cause the Science and Technology streamers don't have to be washed out by other streamers and the Edcuation Streamers and can have there own area to stream. I would even push for different topics in general. Why not have Math, Science, Art, History, PE, Music. TBH we already have some of these topics just add the rest of the curriculum, but for right now Education would be a good first step.
PS Also you already have categories of games that arent being played anymore that have no viewers at all so the excuse of "It won't be used a lot" is irrelevant.
This category would be great not only for instruction, but also people studying. Right now, study streams seem to be lost in the Just Chatting category, when IMHO the content is completely different.
The best place for my language study has been the Duolingo category because it has a growing community. But what if I'm using a different site or app? I don't want to get lost amongst the hot tub streams.
I’m not sure. I use the education tag for almost everything I do. I am not sure I would use a category specific to education. The craft that education is is already what twitch is - a place where you instruct interested audience about the topic / skill you do. Your activity.
Seems redundant, but I want to support your idea or your need, so I have a question - what do you mean by education is not allowed?
Yes!! I've been teaching French on Twitch for one year and been craving a category like this!!
I love this idea, studying classes on twitch sounds amazing
This is definitely a movement to be made here on Twitch. Got my vote!
Twitch EDU would be a fantastic idea! As someone who graduated from school so many years ago, I do not have access to typical educational content unless I sign up for college classes. The beauty of using the Twitch platform for this kind of content is that everyone has access to those passionate about bringing their expertise to the community! We can ask questions, give feedback, and build community through the chatting, follows and subscriptions. Having a place to link all of these streamers together just makes sense to build the community and bring in revenue for the lesser known streamers, AND the Twitch business! Linking adult wage-earners with content they like just expands the customer base of this platform, and the new revenue streams. It also has so much potential for cross-over between gamers who have day jobs, and teachers who like to game. And with the pandemic forcing so many educators to teach online, why would Twitch not want to bring all those students AND teachers onto their platform for school, which then makes it soooo easy for them all to stay around after school hours for fun, and therefore increasing the viewing hours AND money coming in. Make it easier to find what we want on Twitch, and you will see so much more traffic to streamers like this!
This seems like a no-brainer: Twitch has an easy opportunity to capitalize on all of the remote instruction going on. Creating a category to easily find educational streamers would really strengthen the educational community on Twitch and make it a lot more inviting for new online educational content creators.
Twitch should absolutely show increased support for educational channels. I switched from Zoom to Twitch during the COVID onset, and my class liked it way more. This seems to be underappreciated.
Educational content is everything. I have found a community of folks willing to talk about science and it has motivated me to renew my efforts of learning.
This should 100% happen! Video education is here and Twitch should act on this right away.
Yes please! Would help to add tags for different subjects also. Twitch is a great platform for education, but we need better discovery. Especially with more teaching going remote...now is the time!!!
Yes! There should also be more education-related tags to choose from!
Got my vote!
Technically "Younger users" shouldn't be using twitch without adult supervision, according to the user agreement, but some of us adults like learning too
I just had an idea about new category named ‘educational’. I don’t know if there is something similar on twitch already but the concept reminds me a bit on ‘just chatting’. My idea was, since you have a lot of younger users, to have a category that would include some sort of education through live stream. It could gather teachers that would stream some their basic or advanced knowledge or something of that kind. I believe this type of streaming could be the future of learning, but it’s still just an idea. If there is anyone interested in this concept I am here to discuss!
yes please! This sounds like a great idea. Do it Twitch :)
I teach japanese on stream and this game/category is exactly what I need so I support it 100%
Really awesome idea and wish Twitch would add this. The possibilities are endless with this category. Could even learn new languages under this category!
Twitch Education, yes please!
