Verified only Chat Site-wide
It's been 10+ days i'm getting "Verified Accounts only chat" in EVERY single channel i try to chat, even in those where i'm sure the "Verified only" feature is disabled. I'm pretty sure it's either a bug or my account has been flagged in some way, because if i try to chat in those same channels with a different account i can do it without any problem.
I've also read in some other Ideas here that other users are having this bug... Unfortunately i can't add my Phone number to verification at the current time, so please look into this, thanks!

Same Issue
Can confirm all the streamers I usually chat around with during live have not turn on the verified account only settings.
Yes just like the rest of people here who tried to verified with phone number along with alternative phone numbers but couldn't get it to work.

Same issue here.
Even channel I'm subbed too I cant chat in. So i wont be renewing my subs unless this is removed.
Twitch isn't going to get my phone number, and if they keep forcing it, they arent getting any of my sub money either.
I've been using twitch since they split from justin.tv, now they lost me.

Same issue here!
It's started to happen to me since 24 June 2025.
I can't participate in streamers chat that does NOT require phone verification due to this issue.
My account is 5+ years age and has not any enforcement.
It's really frustrating! -

I'm getting the same issue. I don't know why Twitch hates its users so much.

Adding 'plus one' to this thread.
Funniest part, the reply robot sent me here to look for the answer for an alike issue I have. That, and that I couldn't even use neither my old or new phone number from freshly bought sim to do verification.
At first i suspected it was another part of geo-restricting 'feature' for the users, but reading through here it appears accounts are just picked by random.
Twitch, please respond. -

I've had this account after back as 2005 and in that time I've changed phone numbers well over 25 times because of localization. So I've given up on having a phone number now since social media is so prominent. And honestly with the security breaches Twitch has had I dont trust them keeping anymore of my info secure. **** for a WHOLE year after the last breach Twitch system wouldnt let me change my PW no matter where I accessed twitch from, and now just like everyone else Verified Accounts Only Mode now. Even though I'm already verified so..... smh

I've been here since 2013. This morning, every single channel I follow has a verified account only chat. What is this BS?! I don't own a mobile and don't want one. If losing viewers is Twitch's intention then you're doing a great job, Twitch! I'm really tired of this incentive in the west to make everyone have a GPS up their keister. I purchase tickets on ticketmaster and can't get a sale confirmation without a mobile but I can log in to my Bank account on any computer in the world with security questions.
Disable your Verified account only chat Now!

My account is verified with email only and have the same problem. I know it's not a setting the streamer enabled because when I log with a diferent account, also only verified with emial, I can use the chat without issue.
Sad part is that twitch support just ignores the problem description when you try to contact them.

A shameful way of treating its users. Twitch, give me your phone or shut up!

My account of 7 years was flagged by this 'feature' during a stream yesterday 2025-04-17 - went from normal to suddenly having a popup telling me I need to provide a mobile number in order to chat. In a channel I'm subscribed to. No explanation of why & all support says is to come here to complain. I've been banned from 2 channels during all of my time on Twitch - once for a joke that the streamer didn't understand & the other was without explanation - so it's not like I'm a horrible person and have been banned from so many channels that it triggered this.
The only cell phone I have is for work & I am not allowed to use it for stuff like this. I guess I could get a prepaid burner phone for a month to complete this, but I really should not need to. Support told me to come here, but this has been open for nearly 3 years and sounds like there's no progress on anything. I'm a big watcher of twitch, usually having 1-2 streams open and actively chatting in them.
Since it's obvious that Twitch no longer cares about their people, I signed up for a site named after what a punter does to a football last night & have to say that there are FAR less weird interface quirks / glitches than on Twitch, plus they don't have annoying video shrinking to hawk a subscription service. Really hope that more of the streamers I follow move there & several seem interested in doing so since I shared what happened on Discord. Universally, they were dismayed and angry that Twitch is forcing me out like this.
This is just ridiculous... why even have the 'verified only' chat setting if you're going to make everybody add their cell number anyway? Twitch is trying to bully people into giving them information they do not need. (Shortly after I joined twitch back in 2018, their database was hacked & everyone's passwords / emails / phone numbers were compromised - forgive me if I don't want to be part of it the next time it happens, even if I could add my work phone.) I'm not going to allow myself to be bullied, even though most of my friends are now online.
Thank you very much Twitch - you've just ripped away a big part of what little social life this introvert had. :( Keep it up and you'll continue driving people away.

I have this problem on and off somehow. I had it happen with a streamer that I know did not have it enabled when I first watched their channel, and has since stopped for that channel. Had it happen a couple of days ago that I was watching a channel that said it was verified chat only and left it on for a while. Eventually decided to follow and the "verified chat only" went away and I was able to chat. What's worse is that the UI lies and says that it's the streamer doing it, and nowhere is there anything mentioning that actually it's just twitch decided to lock you out sometimes.

Same here. I am new to Twitch, and was only able to chat for about a month before they said I had to verify through phone number. Is this a new update?

I've been unable to use any chats for about 5-6 days now. I agree with others here that this is ridiculous and I'm NOT giving twitch a phone number to verify. I'd honestly rather verify any other way.
Edit: Love not being able to chat in a channel I've actively been a member of for 7 years.

Has twitch staff acknowledged this yet? I've been hit by this 3 times now. It happens any time I post a link or a message that's too long, then I'm verification locked out of all chats for around 12 hours, even the channels I'm subbed in.
I'm obviously getting dinged by some BS automated system but I'm not getting any warning or message of what I did wrong. Feels like I'm walking on eggshells every time I chat.
Judging from the other comments, opening a ticket will be useless since they refuse to acknowledge that this is even a thing.

The last one resolved itself overnight, but I just got hit again for trying to use a chat command (!...). This is idiotic.

I just got hit as well, I think for posting a YouTube link. (For which the channel owner had asked me, by the way. Goes to show how stupid this is.) I will not give Twitch a phone number, and it shouldn't even be necessary since my Twitch account is linked to my Amazon Prime. So either this bug gets fixed, or I'm done with Twitch.

I have now been hit with this "bug" or trying to discriminate and force people to give their mobile numbers against their will. I don't even own a mobile to begin with. Therefore, until Twitch stops discriminating against me, since i am unable to participate in any chat, even ones where I have Mod and VIP privileges, i am discontinuing all twitch subs ($100+) a month, until they rectify this.

It seems like they are selecting accounts based on some activity, and they think they are bots for some reason. Need an alternative way of verifying accounts that don't involve a phone number.
