[MERGED] Bring back colored /me chat messages + Update the /me command to color chat messages FOR MODS/BROADCASTER ROLES ONLY
Or at least give streamers the authority to enable or disable it. But the ENTIRE point was how it stood out with color. Plain black with italics just renders it useless.
Hey all,
Thank you for the patience with us on this. This has been one of the most popular ideas on UserVoice and we definitely heard your feedback.
Today we launched /announcement for mods and streamers. Announcements can be used in chat to highlight a message and are available in 4 different colors along with the channel accent color. Because this is only part of the ask of this idea we are setting this idea to partial release so the community can continue to leave feedback on this.

I think just having italicized /me turned on by default and then let the broadcaster disable it and enable colored chat if they are comfortable with it being used in their channel. Feels like this would have both bases covered for new content creators and others that don't want colored chat then those who like it and want it.

1.) Grey / gray italics bleed in with the rest of the chat text, and makes it hard to differentiate from normal text, even italicized.
2.) Removing color removes the sense of individuality the old style provided.
3.) If for nothing else italicize the colored text.

Just change the name of the cmd for italic and give us back /me colored for everybody if someone doenst like it there is really easy way to blacklist /md cmd for the streamers

Italic fonts decrease reading performance for people with dyslexia and people with visual impairment. This is WELL known within the graphic design field. I understand your need to reduce abuse on the site, but it is by no means okay that it comes at the cost of accessibility.

I really admire your efforts to spoil the user and streamer experience on Twitch more and more every day.

Simply having Italics isn't enough for a message to stand out. Having the colours there helps the Streamer identify the specific chat member/message through the vibrant colours. If we are going to lose the colour in our messages, go ahead and redact the colour of out usernames too.
Giving streamers the ability to toggle coloured messages makes it much better in terms of monitoring misuse and therefor makes instances of said issue less common.
Please do consider the ability to toggle coloured messages, It would restore the community back to the individualistic and unique bunch it once was.

The colored text helps bring individuality to the members of chat, and diversity to a creator's stream.
Taking it away is like putting everybody on a mandatory grey uniform. Who ever in their right mind would think, you know what is better than colors chosen by users to express themselves? Grey, but slanted.
I understand this might not have been an easy decision for the devs, but it is definitely not the right one.
I hope all the feedback is taken into consideration and we can move forward together as a community.

I don't even necessarily mind the italics, but the colored text really helped bot messages/announcements stand out. Please let us have color back!

Bruh. I just got timed out in Twitch's official chat for using /me. The reason: "no coloured messages allowed [timeout] – ohbot"
There's no colour [sic] now! How you gonna time me out for that. :(

/me italics ? No. 1) Not easy to notice 2) Not easy to read 3) NOT FUN
removing /me colored text has taken away so much from chat, and not just individually, but for our bots as well. Nothing jumped to my attention today. NOTHING.
The change should never have even crossed your desk for approval with so little community support.
BRING /ME COLOR TEXT BACK! OR GIVE US THE OPTION to toggle on or off.

It's so bad /me was useful for accessibility and to make bot or advertising messages stand out.

As the moderator of a streamer, I hate the new / me design because you can no longer emphasize the advertising or partners of a streamer with it

This is, in my opinion, a backwards step that I haven't seen a single person ask for.
Personally I had my bot configured with all responses and timers using the /me command because it made the bot messages stand out in chat and made it easier to pick out actual user messages while playing.

There was no reason to remove this, ESPECIALLY when the community has been BEGGING for more important changes. Yet Twitch decides to focus on this?! Absolutely unacceptable. Bring back /me to its original form and do better about properly listening to your community about REAL issues on your platform.

Removing this for the 2 people that fell for the fake donations with /me is useless. It brought so much joy and fun to everyone and it's sad to see it gone

I understand everyone's point about Twitch allowing the Streamer to choose whether /me is on/off or whether it is color or italicized.
However, don't forget Twitch has User/Viewer Settings!
I don't personally think the Streamer should decide what looks best to the viewer's eyes when it comes to chat. They should be the one to make that decision. Even if 99% of my viewers loved the color of /me but 1% didn't I would not want to choose they should view it as color. I would want them to change it to italics in their settings. Globally across every Twitch stream they go into.
Now... to just get Twitch to care about User Settings. They have the foundation for these settings already.
