Suspend streamers who say it once then ban them if the keep on saying it. Same goes for chatters. The r slur has no place on twitch. These comments are repulsive, the word is almost exclusively used as a slur now a days, so implementing a warning and bans for streamers and chatters that use this slur seems like a no brainer.

They need to ban slander too a twitch streamer was having a bad day and threatened me out of the blue and call me slander for no reason.

Its of concern because it's not just casual conversation, it's used as an attack against others. It's one thing to have an opinion or say something it's another to attack others

Before I am discussing it through, I want to ask, why is it your/our business how you fellow humans talk? Freedom of Speech is a very valuable basic human right, which shall not be infringed easily.

While I agree it might be resulting in an insult that is perceived as such, due to the way of usage, such applications fall under Twitch’s existing insult policy sections.

Most people won't feel offended by it, so it should not be seen as offending, excpet under special contexts which are already to be sanctioned on Twitch.

So all in all, censoring the whole community because you feel offended is a bit too much, I believe, but restricting insulting behavior, in such explicit contexts, is a good way of moderation.

it is not a valid medical concept. it has been out of usage for a long time now. there are multiple better and less offensive ways to describe someone. context matters, and quite literally, most usage cases in twitch chats are going to be incorrect usages that are used to insult other people. sure, it might catch french people just using it to mean slow, but the vast majority of people it will catch are the problematic people. tired of people defending slurs. i can tell which people in these replies would get upset if this word was banned because they'd have to find a new insult. so. very. telling. you should get flagged if you use the word, and moderators should be able to decide your fate, t b h. it's obvious when someone isn't using it offensively, and obvious when someone is, all i'm sayin'. i'm not an autistic person who is offended by this word personally, being on the internet forever does that to you, but can still acknowledge it is hurtful to me and to others like me, and just because i'm not personally offended doesn't make it not a slur that should be looked into for banning.

Legitimate Words have meanings, and they can cause damage to legal processes and general understanding by being banned. Where as insults made for the sake of insults, like 2 of the other words you mentioned, are finne to nip in the bud.

but this particular word, unlike the others you mentioned, has more legitimate uses then not, and is a root word from Latin, as already discussed about French and Italian comon usage.

I'd suggest getting over being offended by a word, and taking a closer look at how the word is used instead. Intent and context should be considered first over the words themselves.

For example in the UK a cigarette is called a F A G which is not offensive when used in that context. And there for someone in USA seeing that word automatically taking offense to that word, is then a personal problem, as words alone do not hold context until they are used within a context.

Another example of this is the word R (eh) P E which originally the meaning was to "to rob, strip, or plunder" of which can be used within the context to describe how a group of squirrels took (or stripped) all the nuts off a tree. Which is not exactly negative or bad. So to take offense to the words themselves is "R*tarded". Certain words are part of the nature of reality (to strip a tree of all it's nuts is to R (Eh) P E it).

Don't take offense to words take offense to how the words are used, as that is about intent.
If someone calls you an insulting name - the only reason it insults you is because you've trained yourself to take offense to it. In a better world we should avoid letting words hurt us - words are not harmful and do not contain intent (unless used with the context of intent).

I really dislike being moderated to the point of everyone being forced to walk on eggshells about every little comment they make. I like having the freedom to speak openly about any words good or bad ones. And that is what many people need to learn to be able to let go of these judgements over the stigmatisms of words alone.

Twitch shouldn't ban any words. Its not hate speech unless someone uses it with the intent of it being hate speech. In that case the streamer should face the consequences not the word.

If you consider "the r-word" a slur, you're going to have to take a look at all the channels that allow the n-word. Cuz there are more than a few and there is no user verification to sort out the users who might be more allowed to use it than others. Nobody gets banned for that, do they?

Global bans for words are a hairy subject, because Twitch allows a lot of terrible things to be said on their platform, like the aforementioned racial slur, and others like it. If you want to start globally banning all slurs, you have a whole bunch of burning hoops to jump through to get it done.

If you want to use the argument about "taking the word back", I'm neurodivergent, and I'd like to take back the word rətard, please.
