  1. Right now there seems to be some confusion with the available options for Genres and Themes. Some options are missing, others are in Themes whereas they would make more sense in Genres, and yet others are way too broad to be descriptive and informative.

My suggestion is first to determine what is a Genre and what is a Theme, and convey that to all the data contributors. I suggest to define "Genre" as something that indicates HOW the game is played (gameplay rules and elements), and "Theme" as something that indicates WHERE the game is played (setting and lore elements).

    Hey!

First of all thanks a lot for putting this table together, this for sure will become handy when we research this further.

We’ve been wanting to revamp our Genres/Themes/Keywords for a while, it’s a fairly big undertaking that implies a taxonomy upgrade.
We’ve discussed making use of a sub categories to avoid redundancy and more accuracy for example.

While this isn’t on our radar just yet, i would say it is pretty high up our list of feature upgrade. We’ll keep in touch when we start this project!

  2. Multiple selectable choices which defines what kind of distribution the game have:

    – Physical media: big box, jewel case only, DVD, paper sleeve etc.
    – Digital

  3. Ability to add game-specific controllers/accessories to their page. For example the guitar in guitar hero games, the camera with Eyetoy games, the dance mat for DDR games and so on. Along with the option to set whether the item is mandatory or not.

  4. Company logos change with time and many of them do drastic changes. Suggestion to be able to upload more than 1 logo as well as date input accompanying logos.
Also have a nice logo picture timeline where each logo has a 'from' and 'to' date associated.

  5. Add Russia as region in release date. A lot of Russian exclusive games out there, and also those that do came out to the rest of Europe.

  6. There could be a way to link a game to another as a sequel or prequel, what would be good for game series like Metal Gear and The Legend of Zelda, for example. In the game page, there could be a place saying "Sequel to "game X" and "Prequel of "game Y".

Hey! we had a chat about this internally and landed on the fact it could become problematic, so we wanted to double check your suggestion in more details.
How would we define the order within a series? As this could be seen either as chronologically by release, or by story.

For example, MGS3 being the first one in the story, yet the 3rd one by release date. This could prove very divisive either way.

Another issue that could be problematic are differences in the order by region. Final Fantasy is an infamous case, where FFVI was released as FFIII in North America for example.

Was this the sort of approach you had in mind with such a feature? Let us know :)

  7. Pretty arbitrary, but I have an issue finding another Theme that properly catagorizes titles like Wii Fit or Dance Dance Revolution

  8. Game revisions (like Alpha, Beta,1.0,1.1,1.2,2.0, etc) would be good for reviews, because the game can change since someone reviewed the game. Even old games have revision (Rev 1, Rev 2, like in the No-Intro notation). It is not a particularly needed data point, but some games change a lot with time.

  9. Not a fan personally, but it might be worth documenting with a simple Yes/No Checkbox.

Ex. Jak & Daxter Collection PS3, Resistance 3, Uncharted 3, etc.

  10. Add language options as games data, according to the release (each platform and region may have different language options).

  11. This genre seems to me cross-categorized with many other genres. These types of games include Gradius, Raiden, 1942, Ikaruga, etc.

  12. The EAN on the back of packages are a unique way to identify different versions of games. This could help to find details about a game and revision.

  14. I think System requirements tables based on official minimum and recommendations specs for PC games is very useful and important. It's a must have feature that will be used by a lot of users! :)

  15. Hey!

Seeing that there are already both screenshots, and Artworks it would be great to also be able to add game logos.
I make covers often from official artworks so I usually end-up downloading transparent logos at the same time anyway.

    Thanks!

Hey! yes this is a great suggestion, we’ve definitely been wanting to expand our Game Media coverage with logos.
    Especially for PressKits for example.
