Provide closed captioning for ALL channels, not just affiliate and partner
I like the previously posted idea, but no accessibility features should ever be locked as rewards behind achievements. Folks shouldn’t need to be affiliated or partners to provide captioning to their audiences.
@sugaraf If you reach out to the Association then thank you in advance. If any email sending or a petition or something comes out of that I'm definitely supporting it.
I understand your perspective that streamers should be responsible for providing accessibility. However, the reality is that it should indeed be Twitch's responsibility to provide closed captions as a fundamental accessibility feature on their platform. Much like they've enabled sound for viewers to hear what streamers are saying, incorporating closed captions into their platform should be equally straightforward, especially with the assistance of AI technology.
I've made efforts to communicate this to Twitch, but unfortunately, I haven't received a response from them in the past nine days, despite following up twice. I'm seriously considering taking this matter to The National Association of the Deaf, an organization that has successfully advocated for closed captioning in various forms of media, including streaming videos and social media. It's worth noting that many other platforms have already implemented features for captions, making Twitch one of the last to do so.
My understanding is that the streamer has to be the one to enable closed captioning on their end, regardless of status (I was able to do this long before Affiliate!)...given the multiple closed captioning extensions available to streamers, I just don't think they're consistent across the board - and the ONLY one that integrates smoothly with twitch is mid at best. The function itself is not nearly as strong as YT's, but with a little work, it can be more prominent not only to streamers, but to end users as well. I think there should be a standard closed-captioning plugin for streamers to use. There are font customization options, toggles, and everything for the end user...
Hello again! I recently sent an email to email@example.com, requesting that Twitch promptly provide a transparent timeline or plan of action for the implementation of auto-captions. If no action is taken, I will have to involve the National Association of the Deaf (NAD) in this case. The lack of response or action from Twitch despite solid evidence of concerns being raised since 2019 suggests a potential violation of ADA law.
Twitch Team, your immediate attention to this matter is appreciated.
This is at the top of the threads, and it has been there since 2019. Why hasn't any action been taken on this yet?
Since most of you are not aware.
AND Most likely won't be since The United Nations is refusing to acknowledge New Nations requests( by a big number of online and in-person protests) and to have other Nations' tyrant leadership overthrown:
that have been popping up since 2012,(and may not be online yet)
ON July 4th, 2023
I took The Rights/Advocacy Chair Of NEW Horizens Nation.
End of Starter facts:
Closed Captions, Subtitles with 90% accurate audio generation
For any stream, movie, television, or audiobook player.
That is Part of Disability LAW. Sub law is Disability Equality.
Since all disabled are N.H.N. Citizens since 2012,
Twitch does have to follow our laws.
More mid-post facts:
(USA WAS annexed by over 64% eligible to address congress vote)
( USA citizens by 200 million, 2020 described our nation's infrastructure by protest and may a request, giving congress 1 year, congress refused)
On July 22, I did Sign all Fortune 100s-500s to be investigated.
Any Company That Fails to Follow Our Business Laws, LBGTQ Laws, Disabled LAW,
(including annexed by the people into our soil by infrastructure description.

Amazon's Siezure was signed over in 2022, for allowing vendors to Profiteer,
Partake in Disability Sales Exclusion, Select Disability communications Exclusion(like Emojis. P.E.C. V.E.C)
While Twitch is registered as a separate company
it lists Amazon as a Parent and affiliated company.
(That Court order loophole was overturned by the Judge)
And Twitch was seized along with Amazon.
Now I did order Twitch to be reevaluated because it is listed.
As an independent Company,
I also entered the emails between me and Twitch Staff as evidence...
However, the end result was the same.
They were found guilty of Several Hundred law Violations On August 1st. 2023,
END OF COMMENT FACTS:
Now if Twitch Has a problem with The U.S.A. and its businesses
Being annexed they can TAKE IT up with me
As the Right/Advocacy Leadership Chair.
However, After reviewing the in-person protest and online evidence.
I have no plans to violate those people's rights.

End of comment:
We need this
Closed captioning should be available for every stream and not just for events of affiliates. YouTube has a function of auto-generated captioning. If live captioning isn't available, auto-generated ones should be an available function.
There should also be a way to alter the closed captioning text and font and opacity of the background in order to allow the viewer to change it in a way that suits them.
As a support of this platform, and a user that is hearing disabled I feel this should be somethign accessible to all users. It isnt about the creators it is about the patrons of this platform.
I highly recommend that this is a standard feature that does not require an extension or a third-party website. My chat moderator who is starting to lose hearing is having difficulty understanding what is being said, and neither do myself or them want just the microphone audio, we want whatever the broadcast audio is being said if there were dictation in a game, for example.
Please do this! Even if its not fully accurate it could really help a lot of people out :)
Yes, I agreed with this! Twitch needs improvement to help with disabilities. For this reason, I have deaf friends. They want to see closed captioning on all broadcasters. They do not like extensions because extensions won't appear on all hosts. For example, closed captioning allows users to switch off or on while they are deaf, hard of hearing, or are not hearing impaired. Do not neglect this important. I would like to give you feedback for supporting your Twitch company. Deaf people would like it and then be thankful to you.
Yes, we must think on people who has some disability and if you want to watch it but you can't listen for some reason (if you're in a public place)
I struggle to find twitchers who ACTUALLY caption their streams. This suggestion would save me so much stress
This! If independent creators can make sound tools (re: extensions) to provide closed captioning for users, there is no excuse for Twitch being able to do so for ALL users, not just those in affiliate/partner programs.
I am baffled as to why this is not a part of Twitch already.
Fully agreed, pleased do this!
Hello to everyone,
It would be nice to add subtitles with automatic translation to live broadcasts for viewers who are deaf or have no headphones on.
To think that this software has existed for decades for live television broadcasting but a simple modern site like Twitch still doesn't have it? outrageous.
Why are we making it so much harder to make streams accessible to more viewers? Integrated, well made CC provide accessibility and will help grow communities and streamers. A no-brainer, honestly.
