[Experiment] Making Cheering Easier
For a limited time, within a select number of channels, we’re testing a different way to Cheer through direct purchase Cheering.
Direct purchase Cheering allows you to unlock a fun community benefit through monetary payment, rather than through Bits. This experiment is only available to select creators and you must be located in the U.S. to participate. If you have any further questions please refer to our help article (https://help.twitch.tv/s/article/cheering-experiment-2022?language=en_US)
We look forward to hearing your feedback on this!

I myself as a creator, and my viewers DON'T like this experiment. I wish I would have seen the option to opt out before the change was made. This forces my viewers to go on mobile, spend more money just to cheer to be able to get the alert, and utilize TTS. It seems like this is just a way for twitch to take more money from content creators. Like others have said bits add up, and with the direct purchasing twitch is able to keep even more of the contributions.
Also the fact that we can't opt out if we don't like it is bizarre. Please end the experiment, so we can go back to having fun with our communities. -

This is possibly the dumbest, most obvious money grab by Twitch to date. The user is being bamboozled, and the creators are being ripped off (if donations come in at all) compared to the bits model. Many creators have alert interactions for bits which now don't trigger, and most users don't want to put additional micro transactions on to their credit cards when a lump sum of bits could be purchased and spread around. You've really missed the mark on this one. I know you have shareholders to please, but profits can't be your ONLY goal or else you're going to lose the people you DO have. You're the biggest platform, but far from the only one.

In my mind, bits are one of key things that set apart Twitch from Youtube. The ability to easily micro-give gives small streamers a chance to earn a small amount, as well as for ordinary people to give small tips.
To give some relevant (albeit small data):
- I've had $1.16 in payouts so far from the "experiment" over the last month. And this was basically all from one user testing the button out to see what it would do.
- My average cheering payout was close to $5.00 per month the last few months (with a few in the $10's).Again, I know, small time streamer, but the bits add up. Twitch, this is a failed experiment. It's time to end it.

TERRIBLE idea. My cheers have almost completely disappeared because of this. My viewers HATE this, I HATE this. The email I received was very unclear of the new process or I would have opted out immediately. PLEASE GET RID OF THIS NEW SYSTEM!!

This idea completely obliterates the joy of viewers contributing money. There's no alert, leaderboard change, hype train feature, ability to give a small amount, or notification in the actual Twitch mobile app that I as a streamer use to watch my chat. Just... an absolutely atrocious idea that was made without the proper tie-ins in place that I would like to see reverted immediately

Absolutely hate this feature. It's a lie and an illusion when someone "cheers $20" during my stream but my twitch payout says i'm only getting $15.53.
Why does the FAQ section of this experiment say I'll receive 80%? All my math shows that $15.53 of $20 is 33%... but the viewers think I've gotten a full $20?
Not to mention the 6% you are charging to viewers who pay to use this feature...
An absolute scam from Twitch.
PS No viewers give a **** about having one emote unlocked for them during the stream. Emotes are NOT what people care about on this platform anymore. It's old news. We want REAL features and someone to listen to CREATORS!!!! -

I had to create a separate charge to my card rather than be able to use the bits I have already purchased for the month. I provide myself a monthly allowance of a specific amount of bits to be able to cheer and support my streamers and this does not allow me to do that so it is no a very Financially conscious form of support. ALSO the fact that streamers are getting only a fraction of the contribution is sad and greedy of Twitch when the bits revenue typically is a 1 to 1 ratio 1 bit = 1 cent for the streamer. ALSO the fact that you cannot do special forms of cheering like 69 or 10 or even 111, 222, 333 means that countless hours of chat integration that has been developed by streamers to have interactive sounds and gifs for their communities and now they can no longer have those occur in their channels... that is extremely discouraging. BRING BACK BITS or SEVERLY fix this new cheering method.

GET RID OF THIS ASAP.
This idea is terrible in its current state. I'm sure someone in your marketing team or whatever thought this was cute and fun and you had an echo chamber where they thought this was a great idea, but to be frank, whoever came up with this idea does not spend any time on Twitch in my opinion. While I understand the idea of taking less from the viewer you're really just ripping off your content creators, overall this just feels clunky and not well thought out. The communication on this was not very widespread, if at all (no creator I have spoken to received an email, which means your "make sure your creator email is turned on" argument invalid as people I know, including myself, had it on and received absolutely nothing), and I find it ridiculous that you won't just remove it from our channels by request and we have to wait for your arbitrary choice of time to get back a beloved feature.
Seriously, GET RID OF THIS, get rid of whoever came up with it, and never let them near the user experience of any platform ever again.

This experiment is horrible. I am losing money because people aren't dropping random bits anymore. I also think it is the most uncreative thing they could have added. I loved seeing the random bit icons and allowing people to get my bit emotes. I get those are coming back but doesn't change the fact that I am stuck in a experiment that I got no say in being apart of. There also is no information on when this will end causing my stream to suffer even more. This is currently my only source of income and it is really messed up how you all "sent an email" that not a single person in this experiment seemed to receive. I hope this goes back to bits soon because I'm ready to explore other options if it doesn't

This experiment ran in violation of our affiliate contracts and Support seems unable to point out ANY section where we forfeit our rights to be (IN YOUR OWN WORDS) "Experimented upon" without our permission.
In fact what the contract we signed actually says is this:From time to time, we may run general special programs that may provide you with the opportunity to earn additional or alternative fees (“Special Program Fees”). For the avoidance of doubt (and notwithstanding any time period described in this section), we reserve the right to discontinue or modify all or part of any special program at any time. Your participation in any special program will be subject to your agreement to any terms, rules or policies that we may require you to agree to in order to participate in such special program. If there is a conflict between this Agreement and the terms, rules, or policies for any special program, the latter terms, rules or policies will take precedence with respect to your participation in such special program. Payouts related to any prizes from Twitch operated, or owned tournaments, are governed by the rules associated with that particular tournament; those are not considered Special Programs.
So I'm curious as to why Twitch has decided to abuse some of its most struggling and hard working creators in violation of the very contract they had us sign with NO method of remediation?
What is the point of Twitchs support if their responses are "we cant help you and we're closing the ticket"?
At what point does Twitch realize what a nightmare this is going to be when content creators start going to the media?

Yes, I also wish I had seen the email to opt-out. This is just another way for Twitch to take a cut of my income. Paypal keeps less than Twitch so I would rather my viewers donate now than cheer whereas before it was the other way around and Twitch got their cut off the top. I will ask my viewers not to use this option from now on.

I wish I would have seen this email so I could opt out of this. Almost all of the bits I get are set amounts that react on stream. This should have been in addition to bits not a replacement. Absolutely hate this. 0/10

This new system is the worst thing I have ever seen. This does nothing to make cheering easier and with this system I have officially stopped cheering for any of the streamers I watch until it goes back to the old way.

Really don't like this, saw it on another streamer's account and I would definitely not enable it if I saw it pop up on mine.
