[Experiment] Making Cheering Easier
For a limited time, within a select number of channels, we’re testing a different way to Cheer through direct purchase Cheering.
Direct purchase Cheering allows you to unlock a fun community benefit through monetary payment, rather than through Bits. This experiment is only available to select creators and you must be located in the U.S. to participate. If you have any further questions please refer to our help article (https://help.twitch.tv/s/article/cheering-experiment-2022?language=en_US)
We look forward to hearing your feedback on this!

Hello from Indonesia.
I think it's a great idea to let people choose their method. HOWEVER, these direct support thingy is going to be a bad thing for indonesian people. Paypal is NOT a common payment method in here also not everyone has master / debit card here. Amazon isn't even available in here.
HOWEVER, if you add more local friendly method (Indonesian: Gopay, ShopeePay, SG: SGlah etc etc) it would be better.
The bits are WAAAAY better at this since they have more viable way of transactions and purchase bits.

I ******* hate this change.

This is clearly an idea intended to increase revenue for twitch without any consideration for the community. It will not increase revenue, because it is poorly designed and executed.
F in the chat
The dollars per viewers is higher for lower amounts. Donating $1, 100 times would unlock for 300 viewers, but donating $100 one time only unlocks 30. Instead of incentivizing higher amounts, you incentivize lower amounts.
There is no wallet or storage, no pre-buy. Everything is charged on-the-fly.
This could lead to issues with people's cards being declined for multiple(rapid) charges, again no consideration from Twitch about the community.
This would also make it harder for people to track their purchases and easier for errant charges to not be caught by users. This benefits Twitch with zero benefit for community. Most importantly Twitch is trying to raise minimum donation but what will happen is most channels will die off due to lack of support. Twitch is trying to kill it's own community.
Let's cut the **** and admit this "experiment" is a failure. They can't all be winners, and this one is a stinky loser. Stop trying to push a losing plan forward. The twitch community will suffer and as a result twitch itself.

99% of the time that I cheer, it's less than $1, because I'm not rich and want to show people I appreciate them. This will pretty much end my use of cheering. What a miserably stupid idea.

I just noticed there's been negative feedback about this since April.
You're pushing this forward...why exactly?
-
NovusAngellite commented
You already decided the community deserves less earnings with the solid 50/50 rev split. Stop taking away the ability for folks other than your poster children to get any degree of earnings on your platform.
Before, the cut from bits while transferring to a paypal account was tolerable, though annoying since a cut was already taken from the person who purchased the bits in the first place. Now apparently a dollar worth of cheer gets the streamer less than 60 cents.
Not to mention the fact that alerts systems with Cheers would be assigned to Streamlabs, which has a shady history in their own rite with the whole Streamlabs OBS fiasco.
I cannot think of anyone who'd actually be on board with this. But what do you all care?
You don't have a good track record of listening to feedback unless it's going to legally bite you or hurt your bottom line.

Yeahhhhh seems like you guys need some help designing 'experiments' - because this won't give you any good info. Would love to have this turned off on my channel too.
-
Synthsauce commented
This is a pretty meh feature that does not help creators (especially smaller creators) in any way. Cheering with bits is far simpler and already has stuff like alerts and bit badges made directly for it. This experiment seems more like a ploy to worsen user experience and take an even higher cut of cash from the people who pay through Twitch to support and donate to their favorite streamers. At the very least, give an option to choose between Bits or Direct Cheering (or even both).

Knoxy_in_Oz commented
Dear god please give us an option to end this now. It has completely broken my cheering. I am a smaller channel who receives bit cheering in the <$1 range. This has killed my channel.
I need a way to turn this off ASAP

Ok, everybody clearly hates this, can you end the "experiment" now?? Nobody asked for it, nobody wanted it, nobody likes it. I sure hope whoever was in charge of designing and implementing this "experiment" gets reemed a new one at least, fired at best.

With no warning I was opted in to an experiment I want no part of and sent an email with only 4 days to opt out. I am not a fan of this system as it doesnt reward the viewers the same way as bits. Some people would like to donate below $1 and bits allows that. Please revert this back to bits.
I would like to opt out of this.
Thank you!

there's a lot to cover but i'll try to make this brief.
there's far too much built on bits to simply kill them off. what would happen to the unspent bits people still have? bit badges unlocked by users? custom bit badges streamers added? bit emotes? will they be sent to tier 1? do the ones people have already unlocked just stay and forever be unattainable to everyone else? do they get wiped altogether? based on this alone it seems very challenging to make this work without making everybody angry.
these super cheers cost more than bits. one of the big appeals, at least to me, for bits is that the amount you see appear is what the streamer gets. the viewer is the one who pays extra, but they know what what they cheer 100% gets to the streamer. super cheers are much more ambiguous if you don't look for an answer (which I believe gives around 70% of what you see in chat to the streamer). i do not think this is a good decision for any streamer or viewer. no one on the platform wants this. bits don't need fixing. they work and are versatile, allowing you to cheer whatever amount you want and directly supporting the streamer, with no ambiguity regarding what cut the streamer receives. others said this point much better than me, but this needs more vocal support.

besides being way worse than the bits system, having people take part in this experiment without consent and no way of opting out is just showing how little you care about content creators. this is just one of the many terrible decisions twitch made in the last few months. it´s like you really want to go out of business.

I have so many bits in my account, and I refuse to use more money that I already loaded onto my account. This should be a complimentary feature, not a replacement.
-
fFoxes commented
Please remove this feature. I do not want it in my channel, and I do not like it in other people's channels. Please keep bits. I use bits all the time but I will not use this new cheer system.

katybentz commented
I was notified by a mod, moments before my live stream, that they cannot send bits on my channel, that they can only send super cheers. I never received an email with the ability to opt out of this. I never received an email telling me I was going to be apart of this. Super Cheers take out a cut from the streamers pocket. Bits take out a cut from the donors pocket. By enabling this at all, let alone without the knowledge that it is happening, twitch is legit robbing streamers of the money they deserve. Twitch gets their cut either way, but if twitch is going to replace bits with super cheers, twitch is literally saying they don't care about their creator's livelihoods. I am shaking, livid and upset that this has happened, especially during the slowest month of all on twitch income wise. I want out of this experiment so my viewers can donate with bits again. Thank you.
-
EeeTeaGreen commented
Horrible. I would never use the cheers again if this happened. Some people can only afford to buy 500 bitties or less. I can make 500 bitties go a lot further than $5. Please do not keep this. But if you have to do this, then make the bitties available too. I would be fine with both but not one or the other.

Xao_1988 commented
I don't want it in my channel! Please deacivate. I received your mail on september 16th and you wanted me to decline within 4 days and telling me this post scriptum? I think this is rather a paywall for cheers than making it easier!

froyopaint commented
this experiment sucks. we were opted in without warning. bring bitties back.

As another commenter mentioned, it's great to purchase an amount of bits and then be able to spend some in one channel, and some in another. Now you're adding additional purchases on so I have to nickel and dime my bank account to death. This is terrible.
