I just noticed there's been negative feedback about this since April.

    You're pushing this forward...why exactly?

You already decided the community deserves less earnings with the solid 50/50 rev split. Stop taking away the ability for folks other than your poster children to get any degree of earnings on your platform.

Before, the cut from bits while transferring to a paypal account was tolerable, though annoying since a cut was already taken from the person who purchased the bits in the first place. Now apparently a dollar worth of cheer gets the streamer less than 60 cents.

Not to mention the fact that alerts systems with Cheers would be assigned to Streamlabs, which has a shady history in their own rite with the whole Streamlabs OBS fiasco.

I cannot think of anyone who'd actually be on board with this. But what do you all care?

You don't have a good track record of listening to feedback unless it's going to legally bite you or hurt your bottom line.

    Twitch responded

Hi, thanks for flagging this and sharing your suggestion.

We share and understand your concerns about how the intentional, repeated misuse of tags can undermine the purpose of the tags product itself.  Tags are an important discoverability feature for communities, and a powerful way for all Creators—but especially those that are underrepresented—to express their personal identity and creative vision for their content.

We also do not feel Twitch should be the judge of Creators’ personal or creative identity, so we typically only enforce against the misuse of tags when it is associated with other behavior that violates our Community Guidelines such as hateful conduct or harassment.

That said, as the VTuber community’s experience demonstrates, there are limitations to this approach and we are actively investigating additional steps we can take to protect and improve the integrity of the tags feature at scale, without infringing on good faith Creators’ personal choice…

Facecam streamers make fun of vtubers all the time, call them losers, degenerates, cringe, whatever suits their rant in the moment; and yet now that vtubers are becoming popular they want to piggyback off the existence of the tag, hoping that people will just watch their content instead.

This isn't even just about the vtuber tag at this point. If you look at the tag, most of the people using it incorrectly are also using other tags just to get more coverage, such as "leatherwork" when the stream is about mario kart. Or the "Anime" tag when the stream has literally nothing to do with anime but is just a "walking around town IRL" facecam stream.

What is even the point in categorizing your stream in order to increase eyes on you with users who are looking for specific content, if this nonsense is allowed without so much as a slap on the wrist? And don't even get me started on the sexualized ASMR streams without an adult content warning on said stream.
