Free inactive usernames after a time period.
We’re reviewing this. Curious how long you think would be ok.

Yes, I'm aware: per the recycling policy on the website, "Once you have changed your name, the abandoned usernames will be held by Twitch for a minimum of 6 months"
But they're clearly not being recycled. I've been waiting on an old name since the policy was announced, and it had already been changed for at least a year when it was. I had changed it as part of an effort to rebrand some aspects of creation, which has changed directions since then.
Six months is absolutely a reasonable amount of time, but these names are clearly not being recycled. If you're not going to recycle them in a timely manner, please allow us some manner to request old names if available rather than telling us you can't help and we just have to wait when asked.

The twitch username policy is an ABSOLUTE JOKE.
What a horrible company when it comes to supporting the people that make them cash. For years have I been waiting to use a use a username on an account that's been inactive since the launch of justin.tv.
What a joke, no wonder people are massively switching over to Mixer.
Beats twitch by a large margin. At least they care about their partners and streamers.

I've been waiting so long for an unused username. It's been in the "Sorry. Unless you’ve got a time machine, that content is unavailable." state for years.

It's been 3 years Twitch, all the Justin.tv names SHOULD have been recycled by now. There is no reason they shouldn't have been.

You're now able to change your username. The name you want to change to obviously has to be available. Check out this article: https://help.twitch.tv/customer/portal/articles/1015624-username-rename-and-recycling-policies

It said after "12 months" in your "help center" that names could be recycled. Please do so since it is in your policy.

The name that I use in our Clan has already been taken when I created my Twitch account which was slightly disappointing cause the person who uses it follows nobody, has 0 followers so it's literally a barren account, been registered once but never used. Maybe after 90 days of not-usage you could just "disable" the name, so it's open for others again and if the person comes back they can just change it once?

Definitely. There are a finite amount of possible names in the world that would make sence or be pronouncable. Lets say in a decades time, it's going to be nigh on impossible to get a non-used username as a solid majority of names are taken by inactive accounts.
For some people who already are recognizable by their username on other platforms are unable to use twitch with the same recognizable name for this very reason.
I see no harm in inactive for 12 months, then they get an email giving them 7 days to login or their name will be freed up and their username will then be renamed to <old username>_inactive. When they next login or click the link after 7 days they will be asked to rename their account or the account will such be deleted, either or.
