Depreciate Stream Streaks and transition to a check in system
Stream Streaks create fear of missing out in a way that hurts engagement.
Let me present some scenarios that illustrate my point:
Three of your favorite streamers go live at the same time. You watch on mobile. You cannot check in with all of them despite having streaks with all of them. Who do you prioritize? You move to desktop and still lose the streak because it doesn't record you as a viewer. How do you feel?
You lost a stream streak and are a working adult, you did not know you could watch a clip or a VOD to restore your streak. You lose the streak and are frustrated.
Streamer decides to try a new time slot that is outside of normal hours, you miss the stream and do not have time to restore by watching a clip or a VOD.
The stream goes down for more than five minutes and viewers were lurking but didn't realize the stream went down. They think they have already checked in for the day but they miss the "second stream" and lose the streak.
Now you might be saying why doesn't the viewer watch a VOD or clip to restore their streak? Most do not know about this functionality because Twitch does not have a hub for information that is commonly recognized as the go to place for information. You have to know where to look or actively search, so how would someone know if the only place this information was provided was in a patch note or a social media post or a help article they didn't know they needed?
Suggestion: Change to a check in system to remove the pressure from having to check in every single stream. A check in system creates positive reinforcement and low pressure if one stream is missed. We are encouraging people to interact and not punishing those who cannot interact every time. It becomes an accumulation system that builds good rapport over time.

Stream streaks are the cringiest, stupidest, and most predatory thing Twitch has done in a while. There is no need to watch streaks.

I find anything that preys on FOMO disgusting.

Also another scenario: You are a DJ. You cannot save VODs or clips. How does your community restore their watch streak? Are they left out of the program? It doesn't feel great seeing a big part of our community unable to engage with a tool that Twitch says people can use.

Would like to add a scenario to this for streamers who have different forms of content (like myself where I do co-working, gaming and IRL all on one channel) and I have an audience across almost all time zones. I have people in my community who are so dedicated to their streaks that they compromise sleep to be able to catch it. I don't think this is behavior we should be supporting as a platform but it's currently the only way for people to use the feature as it's build on never ever missing a stream.
The restoring of clips is not only dependent on the fact that people have to know you can watch a VOD or clip but also on the fact that people are 100% aware of your stream schedule so they can plan to catch up. This makes keeping a stream streak an incredibly time intensive chore for just one streamer, let alone for multiple.
It not only puts pressure and FOMO on the viewer but also pressure on the streamer to maintain a regular and predictable schedule. Because a pop up stream or streams that are on a different time zone due to travel can hurt your community and their streaks leaving your audience sad and disappointed.
While the stream streak feature is supposed to bring hype and reward loyal viewers it's now creating stress, restriction of streamer flexibility and people just full on giving up on the feature all together (aka the exact opposite of what the feature was designed to do).

Great idea. Especially helpful for those rare events where streamers stream off schedule.

I gave up on stream streaks almost immediately. I no longer have the mental capacity for most FOMO stuff. Too many games abused it; I can't anymore.
Some other streamers I follow have resorted to secondary accounts for when they stream off-schedule so their long-time viewers don't lose their streaks, and they shouldn't have to.
Check in system is a much nicer number-go-up serotonin boost without feeling like I'm obligated to keep the number going up *or else consequences*.

Punishing grown adults who choose to interact with and financially support streamers and the platform should never have made it beyond the discussion table. The system proposed would be far more conducive to the behaviour it seeks to encourage

Another scenario is if a streamer had to unpublish or delete a VOD for any reason (doxxing, safety, etc. ), people who missed the stream would have a hard time restoring their streak, especially if clips were disabled as well.
