AC stands for Air Conditioning (or Air Conditioner) https://proguidemag.com/what-does-ac-stand-for/, a term that refers to both the cooling process and the equipment used to remove heat and humidity from indoor air, making spaces more comfortable during warmer months. The technology works by circulating refrigerant through a closed loop of coils — a compressor pressurizes the refrigerant, an evaporator coil absorbs heat from inside the home, and a condenser coil releases that heat outdoors, while a fan pushes the cooled air back into the room. This same principle applies across different types of systems, from window units and portable ACs to central air and ductless mini-splits, though each varies in installation, capacity, and efficiency. Understanding what AC stands for and how it functions gives homeowners a foundation for comparing systems, reading BTU and SEER ratings, and making informed decisions when it's time to buy, install, or repair a cooling unit.
