Appletv
The new update - March 3 2023 - has so many downgrades! There are some issues that I was hoping to be addressed, but instead we got more problems.
1) Not being able not see more than the top 25 Live Followed Channels is a big problem. There are a lot of new and growing streamers I follow, support and moderate that are getting zero visibility with this new update.
2) Not being able to chat from the tv, and instead being sent to a QR code that connects to the mobile app stops the ability of people participating directly from their tv. I multiscreen watch lots of streamers at the same time, and this stops me from contributing to the one on the tv now, which is unfair.
3) The chat has become harder to read. The font is smaller and not as legible. ALSO, most chatters names now show up as just white, which makes following the chat much harder than it was in the past.
4) When someone donates bits, it shows up half the time as the emote and half the time as the lettered bit emote name (no emote image), which is silly.
5) We still can’t follow a raid, which was taken away during the last update, which is counterproductive to growing twitch and other channels. I figured that would be changed in the update, but it’s still gone.
6) The lack of animated emotes in the chat bar should have been addressed after all this time as well, but the chat visibility and functionality on the appletv app has slipped even farther behind as opposed to ahead to reflect the growth twitch has been making.
I’m sure there are other glitches I just haven’t come upon yet, but I’m sure I’m not alone with these complaints and suggestions.

The AppleTV app is really bad. No chat in VODs, chat in livestreams has display errors (emotes are shifting), no animated emotes, etc.
Please please fix it. -

Being able to view VODs would be very nice. The past broadcasts tab is gone from everyone's profile, making it impossible to find any videos.

It's horrible. No ability to sort by view count, so every category is filled with sub-10 view count streamers I do not care about. Completely useless unless one of the streamers I want to watch is already online.

The updated app has been an absolute nightmare to navigate and use. Not only is the reorganization/redesign frustrating, but also, I can never seem to get the title banner to disappear. Instead, it sticks around, covers up the bottom of my screen and flashes on and off.
I have to stream from my phone app as the apple tv app is impossible to use.
Please, please, please fix this app. -

Laggy, half of my followed channels are missing on the followed screen, no continue watching section, cant sort by language.

Not allowing users to sort by most popular is a giant step backwards.
This app was already trash and you made it even worse.

The new update is soo laggy and glitchy. You can’t even scroll through the streams correctly without it stuttering or freezing. The live followed streamers only show so many of your creators, and if you select see more, it takes you to the “following” page where you still don’t see more just what you saw before 😂😂 so I’ve had to manually search for smaller streamers that I know is live based on the mobile app. It’s so troublesome to find new VOD content. And also, the audio freezes/stutters every 20-30 seconds and sometimes even worse than that. It gets. Little better if I restart app. Also the video will freeze/stutter with the audio sometimes as well. And all these things didn’t start happening til the new update. It looks and feels like they want the tv app to be like the desktop? And idk why. Make it more tv user friendly, not make it unusable and unwatchable. Which it is both of them at times now. Horrible update.

The sound is off since the update for me. I can’t figure out how to get it back. I’ve reinstalled and restarted Apple TV. No luck!

I can’t believe this HTML 1 app is real. AppleTV deserves better. Twitch, if you didn’t want us to use app then just tell us; no need to be passive aggressive.

Is it just me or is the new app laggy and feels unresponsive?
Why not have the previous version available alongside this “so called ” new app?
I hate VOD chat is no longer available.
Qr code for chat? Are you freaking kidding me.
Scrubbing is Way Too sensitive
The app itself seem so slow it can’t keep up with commands. There are also people on Reddit that hates this update as much as we do.

In the 'Browse' section please divide it into 'Categories' and 'Live Channels' like on other apps. Seeing the most popular streams is good for discoverability when a big event is on.
Bring back the VODS allowing you to pick up where you were up to.

The update is so bad. Literally fire the people who made it, and get it reverted to the previous version. Why remove features like continue watching, and chat replay on VODS. makes zero sense.

I want to be able to see my entire online follow list- if 25 of my higher viewer friends are online I can no longer see if lower viewers are streaming even if I open my follower list. It's ridiculous that the streamers on my follow list below 20 viewers don't even come up anymore and I have to type their name in manually WITH A REMOTE one character at a time after being notified ELSEWHERE they are live. Shame.
I'm not enjoying the removal of chat either but I guess I get it- use my phone it was just nice to be able to send at least a hello emote quickly when I don't feel like chatting or using my phone. Keeping at least an emote only keyboard would be cool.
LET ME BROWSE by filtered options like low/highest views or recommended. The 10 options given by the app I get to browse through is LAME and usually results me exiting the app to go watch something else.
TLDR: Tbh.. this app was in desperate need of an update but gotdamn.. revert all changes this version is NO GOOD
Edit: just realized I was replying to another post- great post and I'm happy to see I'm not the only one disappointed. Also thanks for reminding me how LAME it is we can't follow with the raid and it just shows "this stream has ended" 👎👎

Another one that bothers me that used to be present in the previous version is the "Select Quality" option behaviour changed.
Previously I could change it to 1080p (max) on one stream, then leaving and rejoining any stream would maintain that option. Even closing and reopening the app it would retain the setting.
Now it defaults to "Auto" always. Set it to 1080p60, back out of the stream, and reload it and it's back on Auto.
To add to "Quality" options, I have seen (on a rare occasion) 1440p60 streams (and maybe 2160p60) from PC before and on mobile (iOS) but the max quality version of those streams available on Apple TV was 720p60. I don't understand why they provide this option to mobile and browser and exclude it from Apple TV.

Just rollback to the previous release, this was a gargantuan regression in functionality that worked perfectly days ago.
Chat from VODs is gone.
Chatting via the Native Keyboard is gone (note, we were previously able to chat via Mobile/Phones using the Native tie-ins here Twitch, we didn't need you pushing us to the Twitch app for artificial download inflation.)
Scrubbing is way too sensitive and automatically pauses the player the moment its triggered.
Categories are no longer sorting by Highest Views -> Lowest, it's only offering what I can guess is the 'Recommended for you' sort.
You also made the Following page so much uglier, the previous app followed the AppleTV design language, this bastardises it and wastes SO MUCH SPACE ON THE CATEGORY/GAME ART.
I've cancelled my Twitch Turbo and taken all of my subscriptions off Auto-Renew. You don't deserve the money any more.

Also the ability to resume VODs disappeared from the main view.
Edit: wow, just noticed that you also can't even see chat from VODs as well.

The biggest issue (actually a defect) of all that I don’t think was stated above is around the menu options when watching a stream. Currently, the menu (go to <streamer_name> profile, settings, show/hide chat, etc) does not disappear at all when watching a stream full screen. It attempts to disappear but reappears a millisecond later causing a flickering effect. The only way around this is to show chat which doesn’t lend itself well to users who don’t have large TVs. The issue does seem to fix itself (without having chat open) after an ad is shown.

You hit most of my complaints, here are two more
1)You can no longer swipe away the bottom bar and need to wait for it to time out.
2)The app seems to load the entire front page at once which is very slow, the app used to load things in batches so I could browse my live following list while other content was loaded. -
DJ_All_Love commented
You covered it all! I also wish they would show more than the top 5 streamers when you use the raid shortcut as a streamer. Not related to the app but it’s obvious all they care about is supporting the larger streamers.
