Remove the terrible persistent overlays that take up a significant portion of the screen on the mobile app
So it turns out this is in fact not a bug, but a feature… LOL. I submitted a support ticket on it - asking them to please tell me this was not another “incredible new feature to fix what isn’t broken!” And this is the response I received:
Hello [Username],
I understand your concerns about the changes of the chat overlay off.
We are constantly trying to improve the application and understand how frustrating things can be when things change or don't work right.
We need passionate users like you to share your feedback on our UserVoice. Ideally, it would be best practice to support any existing ideas that may be relevant to your suggestion by voting on them and adding a comment, if you'd like to expand on it a little more. This helps us collate feedback and better understand what is important to you (and our community as a whole), so we can prioritize what to consider as we're further developing and improving our products.
UserVoice forum links: Mobile (in general) | Android | iOS *
I do want to let you know that I have passed this information along to the appropriate teams and developers for further consideration; however I still want to emphasize that voting on existing ideas, and proposing your idea via UserVoice helps! Your feedback is important, as it helps create a better experience for everyone!
Thank you again for your time, and for reaching out. Please reply to this email if you have any further questions!

Makes no sense for a fullscreen option to have all this clutter!
I used to cope but it has gotten worse. Now hype train pops up too and also some random emote ******** in the middle of the screen when someone gifts subs. -

Please Twitch, give us a opportunity to disable the overlay in fullscreen. I pay for turbo and for several subscriptions. at least give the turbo user a option to disable this horrible 4 icon overlay. otherwise i need to use a 3rd party app on my iphone…

Just going to go ahead and bump this even though this board is only here to appease people who are actually mad enough to make a support ticket

Hey guys,
The problem persists and Twitch have not acknowledged this in any way, shape, or form since my initial report and posting of this in November. Nothing I have seen anyway. I continue to use Frosty and it has been great. The only thing I have found missing is the ability to follow new channels - you would have to use either the website or the official app.
I have found a workaround for our main problem however, the official app’s ****** overlays. I will share it in hopes that Twitch does not patch it: Zoom in a very small amount. Zooming in on a stream (reverse pinch action) to any degree seems to disable the overlays so when I need to use the official app, this is my new method. Kind of puts it into perspective how small of a thing this really should have been and how idiotic it is that the overlays became a forced and permanent feature. Hopefully my workaround was an unannounced added feature to bypass them. Let’s just go with that.
If the workaround becomes patched, I will try to make a new comment.
I’m sorry you had to go this far to find an answer for something that doesn’t make sense!

this should be a toggle. if I choose the setting that is supposed to remove the overlay so I can focus on watching the stream then I obviously don't want any overlay icons

What is the point of being able to turn the overlay off, when these buttons (which are clearly overlay) don't disappear aswell? Also idk if it's only a me problem, but when trying to watch twitch full-screen on my phone, I also have a gray bar instead a black one on the edge of my phone screen. It's probably also a feature, because why **** up one side of the screen, when we can **** up both sides (one with the stupid buttons on the other with a gray bar). Do you guys at twitch not have OLED phones?

Stop littering on your own app. No one wants junk in the way of the thing they are trying to watch

I pay monthly for turbo and buy subscriptions… if you don’t immediately give us a function to turn the stupid overlay off, i will leave your app forever and will looking for alternative platforms

Please remove the chat overlay icons. It makes it really hard and annoying to focus on the stream and it can be particularly bright in dark rooms. It makes no sense for it to show up on full screen mode, it disrupts the viewers experience.

Overlay buttons are annoying and overly bright in a dim or dark room! There is zero reason for them to be there in fullscreen mode

Please remove this junk icons.
Or at least propose some options to toggle them on/off.They're just pollution on the screen.
The worst one is the channel points one turning green and lighting up the whole room when I'm watching in the dark.Full screen should be full screen. No ********.

This overlay thing is absurd, who in their right mind thought its gonna be a good idea to add unhidable buttons to FULLSCREEN. Unlinstalling the app till this gets resolved

I hate it so much. The point of full screen is so the content is all you see. I can't enjoy the streams at all because of the overlay and am going to consider deleting the app if it doesn't change.

This overlay is absolutely terrible. If I wanted to have buttons on the screen I would switch between the different overlay options. When I turn the overlay off, I EXPECT IT TO BE OFF. Please don't force me into seeing these icons that I WILL NEVER interact with. I want to focus on the stream content. Not these terrible overlays that take up screen space and I will never interact with.

The fact that they removed the buttons and then put them back the next update is so stupid.
I reinstalled the app and then didn’t last a week of having them gone
Not gonna use it until there gone forever -
