Extend Clips API to provide the MP4 url so editors can automate downloads
If I have an oAuth that represents a User, where the User is either
- the broadcaster the clip is of
- an editor of the channel that the clip is of
- the user is the owner of the clip
And I make a request for a Clip as documented: https://dev.twitch.tv/docs/api/reference#get-clips
(but with the bearer naturally)
The JSON Response should include the direct link to the MP4 or an ability to download the Clip.
This is off the back of the removal/deprecation of some undocumented API's that I was using to get the MP4 URL for automated download for creation of clip reels and similar.
A dedicated "Get Clips Download" API endpoint has been added as an open beta and is expected to be generally available (i.e. stable with no further changes) in two weeks. More details are available in the announcement: https://discuss.dev.twitch.com/t/get-clips-download-twitch-api-endpoint-now-available-in-open-beta/64334

So twitch just doesn't care about small streamers or...? This was a super useful tool, changing the API was such a stab in our backs, now I can't play clips, I can't shoutout with clips, nothing.

We should be able to show clips for our viewers and to promote fellow streamers as well and have a fun time with a clip out of context . If something was working well why to change it?

I'd like to make sure this gets fixed, I'm using Streamgoods and it lets me play clips of certain folks that are either streamers or have my clips played. I'd like to have that fixed up

Please fix this. I use the random clip player for my BRB screen AND One of my favorite things to do for fellow streamers was to showcase them with a shoutout and see one of their clips. I MISS IT!

I use a random clips player for my stream start / brb screens and since this change I am unable to use those. PLEASE fix this! I encourage my community to clip stuff, and those clips can then be featured on stream!

Please make it so clips work again. I like being able to shoutout and show clip of people who raid me or people I want to support. This broke some of my redeems too.
Thank you! -

I know there's a minority of streamers who don't like the clip players, but this has been a huge part of the twitch community experience for years. As I've developed my own clip player, I've done my best to avoid the issues people have with them by adding a consent system and defaulting to featured clips, but there's a change Twitch could make to enforce this for all clip players: add an option for streamers to allow third party apps to download or stream their clips. Return the mp4 video url to the api call and only give it when the streamer has allowed 3rd party clip access. You could take it a step further and make it an option on individual clips, and add a query parameter to the clips api to only return downloadable/streamable clips. Either option would allow clip players to return to the community without streamers having to worry about unknown, embarrassing, or otherwise undesirable clip playing on other's streams.

Let me add my voice to the chorus. I am very disappointed that none of my clip player services will work for shoutouts or random clip players. I've tried seen.gg, streamgood.gg, and twitch guru - all are broken. I really wish Twitch would find a workaround or revert the changes. Shoutout clips are a great way to make visitors and raiders feel welcome and increase exposure - something Twitch itself is awful at, so we need something to help get the word out about smaller streamers that Twitch refuses to promote.

shoutout clips make the stream so much better and more fun. Not to mention using them with my own channel as a raid trailer until this newbie tiny streamer learns how to edit together videos for reach and welcoming vibes.

Clip generator is broken. 90% of the time doesn't work. Videos don't load and audio continues to play. When videos and clips do load, they are so choppy it's a still frame.

It's a joke. Due to recent changes, even the workaround with the old clips doesn't work anymore. Integrating via Embed simply offers too little control, especially since it is only possible via an iframe.
Many tools that require the direct download link of the clips (including 90% of all clip players) no longer work.
you are taking more and more tools from us to generate reach and are slowly destroying your own platform -.-

Yeah same here. Shoutout clips broken now for good. This is really sad. Why is Twitch requiring now jumping through so many loops to just play a clip in OBS? This is a horrible development. If the api would just respond with a direct url to the mp4 file, which can be played by normal html means without any auth loops. That would solve so many issues I am having.
The lack of this is severly reducing the entertainment factor of the stuff I do. REE

Shoutout clips is something my small community enjoy as part of my stream promoting friends and everyone else who drop by or raid in to support me. Yet, you decide to up prices on your platform and take away this small joy from us? What else do you want from us? Our entire paycheck no matter how miniscule it is??? Have some heart!
