Hi all! We really appreciate all of the wonderful feedback and passion surrounding this topic. Reading through the comments, we wanted to clarify one point that may have caused confusion:
The purpose of this experiment with new directories is intended to better highlight broad groupings of content by bringing them together in directories where they wouldn’t be in direct competition with each other, increasing their exposure. In this way, creative content stands to have better exposure by being separated from gaming, etc. We will know better once the experiment concludes and we’re able to review the data in full.
That being said, through your feedback, we also recognize that the broad naming of the category as “IRL” doesn’t acknowledge that Creative and IRL content are distinct. We will be evaluating the results of the experiment to determine how we can continue to best support communities’ growth, while ensuring we are…

Suggested streams not only by highest viewer count The browsing itself is great, I like that we can browse separate subcategories (for example in Gaming) like Shooter, Action & Adventure, Role Playing etc but it would be great if the shown streams weren't all the highest viewer counts. Yeah it increases the discoverability but only if you're in the top 5-10.
Maybe there is a way to display random streams from that category/subcategory? A mix of different channels would be great so streamers with lower view counts don't disappear. Especially because expanding the subcategory only gives you a few more streams, not all of them. Normally we can…

Add an Art tab. Traditional and Digital artists make up their own large chunk of a media. Shoe-horning them into IRL seems detrimental to that subclass of twitch streamers.

Add a art section An art section should be added upfront with everything seeing as it doesn't fit within the IRL category and is a large part of twitch.

Creative vs Music First off, love the idea and it's very helpful. that being said I think instead of 'music' the category should be 'creative' and include art, music, mini painting, makeup body paint, writing ect. As someone who like watching art streams, if I can't find one I like these are the categories I go to next, including music. You use to have something similar to this system and it was really effective. Otherwise props to the development team

Art/Game development should be a category Game development is already a mostly-dead category on Twitch after being lumped in with Science and Technology, and the art/creative creators on Twitch are also increasingly being ignored. Please add a dedicated Creative category to cover art and game development to fix this issue.

Make an improved system for clip viewing Allowing a better place for clips to be discovered would make 1. A better place for streamers to get discovered 2. Keep people interested in the streamers they love even when there not live

Give Art its own category, not shove it under IRL. Give Art its own category, not shove it under IRL.

Search based on streamer schedules Why not enable the ability to search for streamers based on their listed, scheduled times? Allow the user to input the days/times they tend to watch streams and then recommend them streamers that best match that scheduling. If they don't select it, you could automate it based on viewing data.
This improves discoverability for streamers and also benefits viewers by making it easier to find people they can reliably watch.

make art its own category / change “music” to creative. there are so many streamers who do art. the fact that the biggest streaming platform refuses to acknowledge art as a popular streaming topic is discouraging to potential users.

Artist friendly Please give Creative / Art its own section. Your creative streamers deserve more than to be buried under IRL.

Unmerge Super Mario Bros. 2 and Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels Twitch on January 12th merged the categories for Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels and Super Mario Bros. 2.
These are completely separate games with completely separate gameplay, streamers, and audiences. The merging seems to be done by mistake as they both share similarities in their naming variants, Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels often called Super Mario Bros. 2 (Japan) as it was the original sequel released in Japan only.
On IGDB, both Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels and Super Mario Bros. 2 have separate categories, so this seems to have been done via manual intervention on Twitch…

Use clips as a discoverability feature Basically add an option to get clips based on your game interests as a neverending feed, similar to the TikTok For You page or Instagram Explore tab.

Option to add thumbnails Adding thumbnails to streams would be a great way for many viewers to come across streams that might be of interest to them!

Make art/creative its own catagory Art being under irl is an awful and detrimental decision that will only drive artists away from your platform. Artists help your community (emotes, layouts etc) don't hide them under IRL. A good portion of your viewers go into irl solely to troll and artists already struggle to gain a solid audience on your platform. Several artists have already left twitch for YouTube, putting art/creative under IRL is just opened the door and encouraging them to leave. Give creative it's own category, put music under it (it is art after all), problem solved. People wouldn't have to visit a help…

Add a hidden gem directory button Summed up, for the new directory buttons that are being experimented with to supposedly help adding discoverability to the platform, could there be a fifth button that exclusively shows streamers who has been streaming consistently for atleast six months, but average less than 10/15 viewers?

Have each category have its own "front page carosel" This would be every month have new creators highlighted in those sections. This would be a great way to promote twitch ambassadors more as well as creators that are really just making great content regardless of their small size. Right now its incredibly difficult to get any exposure on twitch and i think this would be great right now.
