Make Art/Creative its own directory
Hi all! We really appreciate all of the wonderful feedback and passion surrounding this topic. Reading through the comments, we wanted to clarify one point that may have caused confusion:
The purpose of this experiment with new directories is intended to better highlight broad groupings of content by bringing them together in directories where they wouldn’t be in direct competition with each other, increasing their exposure. In this way, creative content stands to have better exposure by being separated from gaming, etc. We will know better once the experiment concludes and we’re able to review the data in full.
That being said, through your feedback, we also recognize that the broad naming of the category as “IRL” doesn’t acknowledge that Creative and IRL content are distinct. We will be evaluating the results of the experiment to determine how we can continue to best support communities’ growth, while ensuring we are recognizing their unique qualities. Please continue to share your thoughts and ideas around this topic!
Art is important, and not just talking, give it its own category !
Twitch will suffer from a decision to roll everything into a single "IRL" category as more artists (and their followers) migrate to other platforms.
Dont take this step back. - creating art is not just talking.
art/creative need its own directory.
Art/creative needs its own category!
Someone mentioned making creative a category and having music under that category. And I very much agree with that.
As a fulltime streamer/partner I stream in Just Chatting just to be seen more and to show my expression to many more people and I am also a variety streamer so I like having a mixed communuty. But there are many artists who stream in the actual art/beauty categories (their main content) that have a hard time growing due to Twitch's lack in the discoverability towards all artists which is super unfair and just shows how little artists are appreciated on the platform no matter how much hard work they put in. Twitch used to be inclusive about art. I have been streaming for 5 years 4 months and when I first started on the platform, there was a category called "Creative" which I think you guys should bring back. You guys used to do contests and events too. It felt more welcoming. We were more appreciated back then, but now it feels like artists are just being smudged out of the picture. It's really sad to see how much time has passed but the platform is going back in reverse in my opinion. This needs to be fixed. Please add more easily accessed discoverability for artistic creators.
Artists already have a hard time being seen, and as a consumer I'd love to be able to find art streams easily rather than having to trawl through a bunch of other "irl" stuff to find them. In fact, I would probably watch more art streams on Twitch vs say, Picarto, if they had a dedicated category where I could find them.
IRL has always been a bit of a catch-all for content that doesn't really fit anywhere else. Art deserves to be treated as its own category. Dumping artists in with all the Just Chatting folks is (quite frankly) demeaning because it falsely states that artists don't deserve to be recognized for their artistic talent.
The more that Twitch alienates the art community, the more likely they are to migrate to other platforms such as YouTube or Picarto. And that is not something that Twitch needs right now while the Big 4 of the music industry are putting pressure on everyone's backs.
If any form of management at Twitch sees this, I highly recommend that you show some respect to the incredible talent that makes the Art community so special by reinstating the Creative category and expanding on it with Digital, Traditional, Music and Crafts categories.
Also, it might be worth giving IRL a Cooking sub-category if you haven't already.
Art, Music and IRL are all separate topics from IRL chats and should be treated as such. Attempting to lump those categories under "IRL" will burry arts and artists from being discovered and homogenize twitch as a whole like it previously was. Give the arts their own space and twitch can grow to a wider audience!
Art is not just IRL, it more than that. There are many new artists that are coming out and to put them under just one category is unfair. Why not add Creatives, which would cover anything that would have to do with Art, as it encompasses much more than drawing. If you lump us all in IRL we are going to go lost as many people coming to Twitch avoid that category, as they don't seem to understand it. Make an Art section, or better yet, a Creative section.
Art should have it's own category. It isn't just an IRL stream, there is more to it than that. I would hate to see some of the wonderful artists get lost in the mix because it's all lumped under one big umbrella
Art needs it's own directory! There's such an amazing community of artists and creatives on Twitch and I REALLY don't want to see them get buried in a IRL category.
Please Have art as it's own Directory, there are tons of amazing flourishing art focused communities on Twitch that will be lost in the shuffle if you generalize it under a non descript heading.
How can you have a Music directory but not a directory for Creatives? There needs to be a place where the creatives and artists should be visible. Don't try and lumps us in IRL.
Given that you went out of your ways prior to create art subsections for better distinguishing between the content provided, why wouldn't you logically also provide it its own category? The framework is all there. It wouldn't be difficult. It's frankly embarrassing that it's taken THIS long, though I suppose embarrassing decisions are the "in" thing for this site as of late, aren't they?
Artists need their own category. Having to scroll thought endless amounts of irl streams to find art streamers will kill art on twitch.
Artists need to be able to find each other so we can support each other and people looking for art streams need to be able to find them as well. Removing the Art category will only damage the art community on twitch.
why is Art a part of IRL? because of the aritsts? because artists use real life things?? But their art is different from real life, especially if it's digital. people who want to see people make art won't think of the IRL category, they'll want to search for a creative category. you are making it harder for those people.
please consider this.
How is music a category, but art isn't, lmao.
Hello I am an art streamer and the fact that the new Twitch interface takes away the art category and lumps it in with other things is very frustrating. I just started streaming about a month ago so I could discover new artists and have a place to share my art, but this new feature will make discoverability really difficult for artists. Now I am reconsidering not streaming if this happens. Please put Art in its own category.
