AV1 Encoding Support
AV1 encoding support should be a priority add to the website. AV1 encoding is a big improvement in visual quality to streams over CPU and GPU encoding options. Discord already added it, and I believe YouTube has it as well, it's very surprising to me that Twitch hasn't added this and there isn't even an ETA on it being added yet.

This far into 2023 we would really like to hear rumblings about an AV1 beta or options for higher ingest bitrates.

If this is still happening I'd like to join in. The YouTube streams I've been putting up are epic in AV1 but Twitch is where it's at.

AV1 LESSHHH GOOOH!!! https://www.thetechedvocate.org/av1-vs-h265-hevc-vs-vp9-what-is-the-difference-between-these-compression-standards/
I'm sure things will be underway soon with AV1 encoder. but still we live in a wonderful future with H265 or AV1

Since new graphics cards have an av1 encoder, you should add av1 support on twitch. This would allow streamers to provide better stream quality while reducing the bitrate sent. Everyone would benefit from it, "big" streamers could do clean 1080p60fps streams or even 1440p or even 4k and beginner streamers who don't have access to all the quality could stream in a good quality while using a smaller bitrate so that way viewers with bad internet could still watch their streams.

Still no official response in a year? YouTube has since rolled out AV1 support, NVIDIA GPUs now support AV1 hardware encoding, please at least roll out a beta that we can enroll into! Even if the concern is transcoding costs—there are datacenter AV1 hardware encoders that can handle hundreds and hundreds of streams simultaneously for relatively little price. Check EposVox’s video on such tech.

Man, it's such a downer having to sit through something about to be released like CS2 with that garbage h.264 quality. Talk about a mood killer!

They don't care. Right now they are into getting the most juice from Twitch until it dies.

This would be very nice, as my streams look rather bad with the current AMF encoder.

We need to look for the future and we need AV1.
It is no secret that H.264/AVC is now an outdated!

We know you guys (twitch) probably have alot of backend to deploy to enable av1 and to provide a pleasurable experience for all users, both creators and viewers alike, and all of us are here to help even if its internal testing for the time being to help bring this tech to light. Let us help you at least from an end user perspective. I wish you nothing but good luck in rolling this feature out. Its definitely a big change backend and frontend wise and not an easy one at that.
