Midroll ads are only ever run by the streamer. Either manually triggering a block of ads, or by the automated Ads Manager that the streamer has to configure and turn on. Any streamer who tells you otherwise is 100% lying to your face.
The only ads Twitch forces to play is one 30 second preroll, if the streamer is not choosing to run midrolls to meet their required saturation of 90s every 30m.

Absolutely. This would be a great change; just listing the ad-time left would communicate much better. Regularly get 'OMG 12 ads?!?!' in-chat when taking a break.
Listing the time left on the overall ad break would be FAR less of a shock to viewers, and communicate better the way that streamers apply ads, as a timed block.FerretBomb

Definitely keep Bits. So many channels have Bit-specific interactions (sound effects, on-screen toasts, and other 'mess with the streamer' things that these 'super cheers' completely break and render unusable.
While the idea here is *clearly* to push larger individual microtransactions with the expectation that people will maintain their current cheering activity, it will absolutely KILL a huge extant ecosystem of nanotransactions that buoy many streams and are a constant background trickle-charge that severely adds up over the course of a month.
Don't kill the golden goose, whatever executive is getting greedy-fingers THIS time.

Uh... pretty sure monetized streamers DO get revenue from ads shown on VODs. At least, I do. It's very low (as would be expected from single or double digit numbers of people watching the VODs at all).
I show ad revenue from most if not all days when I didn't stream, and was told by a Twitch Staffer a couple of years back that it was from VOD ad-serve.
Looking at my reports, I'm seeing between $0.01 and $0.47 ad-rev on non-streaming days in the last month, averaging toward 3-5 cents, which completely tracks with a handful of people watching the VODs. Ad-rev is *low*, even with the 55% AIP split active.
So... yeah. Streamers DO get paid for VOD ads already. Always have.
