  1. Please add Dota 1 as separate category, as presented here:
    https://www.igdb.com/games/defense-of-the-ancients

Currently streamers are forced to use Warcraft III as game even though they are playing strictly Dota.

    Hi!

Unfortunately Twitch does not ingest MODs as streaming categories, and from a categorisation point of view that is nonetheless correct for us on IGDB: Dota 1 is indeed a MOD of Warcraft 3.

What we'd recommend is to reach out to Twitch Support directly for the creation of a bespoke category, they are able to do override on certain categories.

Alternatively you may ask here directly for a new category to be created: https://twitch.uservoice.com/forums/310210-discover?category_id=367945

    Hope this helps!

  2. The game is already duly registered with the IGDB, but when I contacted them via email, I was informed that this problem would be resolved here and that the game would be able to be an option, a category of choice for streamers.

  3. An option to add owned games and when you add a bundle their games are added to the list of owned games. Games should have a subcategory in the list preview for DLC's and extras, not a game entity. This would make a list readable for the user.

Hi and thank you for your suggestion. These would be interesting to add in the future, but before we do that we want to make sure that we have a good coverage of the ratings that we recently added. After that, we can look into adding more. Thank you!

  6. I think the "Want" and "Playing" options are good as they can get, but when it comes to "Played", I think it should be more than that.
    * There are games that I've beaten and/or completed
    * There are games that I started to play, but then I stopped playing and won't get back
    * There are games that I started to play, and took a break from, but I'm planning to get back to them eventually

I don't know the best way to present these buttons on the game pages. For example, when you click the "Played" button, then…

Hey! We have decided that it would be very interesting to have the ELSPA ratings on IGDB and we would like to add it in the near future. We we probably bundle a couple of new age ratings together and add it sometime next year.

  8. While this may need a bit of oversight, there are some extremely good examples of documentaries or historical breakdowns of game releases and/or even controversies. These are topics that are not generally covered in the official trailers or dev logs, or even gameplay videos. These videos can lay out a history of why some titles are cancelled, or overhauled, or have a troubled history outside of the game itself.

    Examples:

  9. A new game type "Expanded Bundle. I have run into a couple of situations now where a game bundles a couple of older games within it's new release. Right now they usually sit as a main game, since the new content falls under a new game, but adding this would allow us to link the bundled games additionally to reduce confusion.

  10. 6% of males and ~0.4% females have color blindness. A good number of games feature a colorblind mode (Forza 5 for instance). Many don't and have nearly unplayable sections as a result.
When I'm looking for a game, one of my greatest concerns is with color-coded information. If it exists, I need to see it in action, and if it's red-green or any other combination that is a problem, I need to know if I can change it. If I can't change it, I'll usually pass.

    Some examples:
RTSs sometimes use red and green icons on minimaps - literally any…

    Hello!

This is a great suggestion thank you! Actually the timing couldn't be more ideal, as we are in fact investigating how we could tackle accessibility data in games, which would cover Colour Blindness of course.

This might be a long process (no ETA unfortunately), but something we are very interested in indeed :)

    Thank you!

  11. Can you please add a posibillity to see in the database somehow visually games that you marked as "completed, voted, or played''

Its gonna help to look trough games that you haven't tried yet.

So - i go to the database, see all the games, but the games i completed i can se marked as 'completed' or somehow else - different color, or badged.

i think a lot of people would appreciate it!

Hey there! Good suggestion thank you!
that sounds like it would be a good fit for a List feature improvement indeed.
Keeping that one in mind! Thanks!

  12. Currently the IGDB is only a database of video games but is the canonical source of twitch's game list. It should include all games if it wants to be called the IGDB and not IVGDB. This includes board and card games that do not have a digital version. This choice on the data front results in non-digital games all having to be lumped into the broad board game category and having to push for individual inclusion. Either make all video games jump through the same hoops or make IGDB live up to its name.

    Hey there!

Understandable about the naming expectation, but i can confirm that at this point in time, and the near future at least IGDB is strictly focused on video games.

    Few reasons for this:
    - Coming up with video game taxonomy to set industry standard is already a monument of a task, and it makes sense for us to narrow down this goal by excluding board games, card games and other physical types.
    - Twitch does have some very unique use cases beyond video games, which is why there is a distinction in being the database that powers Twitch’s gaming need, rather than being Twitch’s database itself. Our data being used by many more services than Twitch alone, we remain focused right now on video games.

It’s totally possible that in a long term vision we start tackling taxonomy of non-video game products, but likely not in the near future…

  13. There is a variety of arcade games on IGDB, but there is no differentiation between the different arcade hardware. For example, Chunithm and maimai Finale are both on IGDB under the platform of simply "Arcade", despite Chunithm running on the Sega Nu 1.1 board, while maimai Finale runs on the Sega RingEdge 2.

While there are a lot of platforms that would have to be added should this change be made, I do believe that this change follows the mission of IGDB, as the website strives to be a collection of all relevant information for a game, and there are…

It's an interesting data point and it might be worth having in the future. However, before adding more in-depth data we want to update our platform page and make sure that the data structure is solid. After that we think it would be worth looking into additional Arcade platforms and differences as well. Thanks!

  14. It would be good to have some preset options for screenshot descriptions, like Alternative Names have (and still maintain the possibility of adding a custom description).

The main suggestions I have are:

    • Title screen (I use this one all the time)
    • In-game screenshot
    • Main menu
    • Opening screenshot

Hi! We think this is a fantastic idea and follow the patterns we have for videos which indeed improves the consistency. We have made a ticket and will try to work on this as soon as possible. Thanks!

  15. Have the ability to add links to the Internet Archive where older games can be streamed legally.

Hi! We think this is a great idea, and wouldn't be hard to do. It's indeed a good way to mark all those character trailers (there are a lot of them). We have put this in our backlog and will try to get to it as soon as possible. Thanks!

  17. On game pages we have "follow" button, would be nice to have same button for companies/publishers, to receive info about upcoming games/releases.

Hey! Thanks for the suggestion, there’s some good opportunity there indeed.

We have plans (and needs) to redo how we handle companies, but we also need to rethink how Follows are handled. Right now even follows on game page are underused in terms of potential.

Definitely to be put in consideration when we revisit Companies. Thanks!

  18. I was trying to add credits for a game I developed myself, but we have no youtube video showing the credits. I think there should be another method of verification for entered credits e.g. websites or some kind of verification of the credibility of the editor.

    Heya!

Our end credits is one of the oldest feature we have on the site and indeed could use some additional improvements.
Unfortunately this isn’t currently planned to revisit it in the short term.

We do however intend to explore ways to differentiate game developers from regular users which could also help such use cases.

    Thanks!

  19. I wasn't sure what to use for this and I think that's the point. Puzzle titles like Tetris, Pong, Breakout, and the like are very hard to define in terms of a Theme based on the choices available.

An Abstract Theme might be the best case in these situations.

Hi! We talked about adding this theme, and we all agreed that it's a good idea. We just have to write clear guidelines around it. We are looking to add this as soon as possible. Thanks!

  20. This might sound redundant, but perhaps is would be beneficial to make the Status of a entries "Released" or "In-development" instead of leaving it blank for this development state.

It appears rather common people confuse the terms of Alpha, Beta. etc. for something they need to fill out without understanding what those states are, marking a fully released title as an "Alpha", or leaving a title in perpetual "Early Access" after the full release. Contrary to all other data points of an entry, this is the only one it's encouraged to be left blank, while new users feel compelled to…

Hey! This is not a bad idea, however it is going to be a bit hard to do that with our current set up for statuses. We are worried that it might cause confusion for some contributors that are working on games or adding games that are between stages where "in development" and "released" won't apply. So we would need to think about how to expand this feature carefully before taking action. We will investigate further on this topic. Thanks!
