Twitch should officially introduce support for 120 FPS livestreams, especially for fast-paced competitive games such as Counter-Strike, VALORANT, Apex Legends, Overwatch and other esports titles.

120 FPS would make motion significantly smoother, improve visual clarity during fast camera movement, and provide a noticeably better viewing experience for competitive gaming content.

The feature should be fully optimized across all supported platforms and devices, including:

• Desktop PCs and laptops
• Mobile phones and tablets
• Smart TVs
• Consoles and other Twitch-supported devices

Viewers should not be forced to watch at 120 FPS. Twitch could automatically provide transcoded versions such as 120 FPS, 60 FPS and 30 FPS depending on the viewer’s device, connection speed and selected quality settings.

On devices that support high refresh rates, viewers could benefit from the full 120 FPS stream, while older or less powerful devices could automatically receive a 60 FPS or 30 FPS version without performance issues.

This would allow Twitch to improve stream quality for esports and high-motion content without negatively affecting viewers on mobile devices, slower connections or lower-end hardware.

Ideally, 120 FPS should become an officially supported broadcasting option in Twitch’s encoding and transcoding infrastructure, rather than relying on unofficial configurations.

High-refresh-rate displays are becoming increasingly common, especially among gaming audiences, so official 120 FPS support would be a meaningful step forward for Twitch’s viewing experience.

We are already in 2026. Gaming monitors have reached extremely high refresh rates, including displays approaching 1000 Hz, yet Twitch livestreams are still officially capped at 60 FPS. For the largest gaming-focused streaming platform, that gap is becoming difficult to ignore.
