Allow streamers to enable a client-side minimap/overlay hide that is removed in VODs/archives (for LoL etc.)
Many League of Legends streamers currently hide their minimap (or other sensitive UI elements) by covering it with a black box or overlay on their streaming software. This protects their strategy during the live broadcast, but it permanently damages the VOD/archive — viewers who watch later can never see the full minimap information.I propose a Twitch-side solution:Allow streamers to enable a special “Map/UI Hide Overlay” in their Creator Dashboard (or stream settings). The streamer can position and size a rectangular overlay area (or multiple areas).
During the live stream, this overlay is applied client-side on the viewer’s end (similar to how some other Twitch overlays work), so the minimap is hidden for live viewers.
In the recorded VOD / archive / highlights / clips, the overlay is automatically removed, so the original unedited stream (with the minimap visible) is shown.
This would give streamers the privacy they need during live play without permanently ruining the educational or entertainment value of the VOD for people who watch later.Key benefits:Streamers keep strategic information private during the live broadcast.
VODs remain complete and useful for analysis, learning, or just rewatching.
No need for streamers to use OBS black boxes or other permanent covers.
Could be extended to other games that have sensitive minimaps or UI elements.
This feature would be especially valuable for the League of Legends (and similar MOBAs) community on Twitch, where minimap hiding is extremely common.Thank you for considering this idea!
