Remove "queer" as a banned word
Queer is not a slur. It is how a HUGE number of people identify, ESPECIALLY by those who are non-binary or exist outside of the gender spectrum.
It is used by prominent politicians, organizations, medical offices, artists, creators, and members of your own site.
By banning this term from panels, bios, and elsewhere on channels, you are actively participating in discrimination against the LGBTQIA+ community.
It's LITERALLY what the Q in your "LGBTQIA+" tag stands for.
Remove this word as a "banned word." Stop limiting queer creators from existing on your platform.

Update: UserVoice has removed “queer” from their filter. You should now be able to use the word on this site.
Unfortunately, it seems as though the change was not retroactive, so I’ve corrected this manually by removing the stars in each of your posts. Very sorry for the trouble with all of this – thank you so much for your patience.

Queer streamer here, echoing this. This is like blocking the word 'Gay' to me

Come on, Twitch. This is a simple fix. Many people use this as an identifier. Let them have this piece of their identity on their channels for Pete’s sake.

I can't imagine why this word would be banned when so many members of the LGBTQ+ community identify with it. Please change this immediately as this is exclusionary. Why are we focusing on banning words that folks identify with when we could be focusing on the perpetrators of homophobia, racism, transphobia, etc. on this platform?

Twitch only protects the straight, white man. More and more proof each day. This needs to change--I know too many people to count who identify with this word.

Twitch, this sort of failure to comprehend who you are hurting is a major contributing factor in my ongoing decision not to apply for affiliate or partner status with you. You are alienating people who are already marginalized.

Give us back Queer. So many of us prefer to use it as an identifier

Twitch says they support to LGBTQIA then do something like this! you need to change this immediately. This isnt a slur. Its a word we use. Are we not welcome on twitch?

Queer is the only identifying word that has ever felt 100% correct for me. It'd be nice to be able to actually use it on my own streaming platform when referring to myself. Banning it is taking the power away from those who actually have a right to use it because others try to turn it into a hateful word. How is punishing us for the bad behaviour of others a good thing?

you want to "continue" working with lgbtqia+ creators? Removing our ability to use key parts of our identity is not the way. We need to be able to self-identify, and using the Q is a huge part of that for many of us

So you’re just going to ban an identity? Can you please prove that you care about a large portion of the twitch community?? Like ?? For once ??

This is absurd and ill-informed. Please remove this as a banned word ASAP. We’re slipping up a lot on Twitch and I think a good PR move would be a little research before these broad strokes.

Guess we can't watch Queer Eye anymore - someone tell Netflix that this word is offensive!
Someone tell Wikipedia to take this article down! It has a slur! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queer_studies
Can't wait to have all colleges remove their Queer Studies courses for being offensive!

Twitch, this is absolutely disgusting. How dare you? Between this and all the other ways you treat queer people on your site, especially trans people, it is obvious that twitch actively wants to hurt us.

Absolutely backwards to be banning words like queer. Are you trying to ban us, people that identify as queer, from the platform? Doesn't feel like we are welcome.

While I understand that queer is used as a derogatory term by others it is also an identifier by others. This decision needs to be reversed.

For anyone seeing this, they've already censored this post. The term is Queer and it is NOT a slur.
