Let Viewers See Which Tabs Are Earning Points (And Which Aren’t)
Many Twitch viewers open multiple tabs at once—either to support friends, earn channel points, or boost viewership. But most don’t realize two key things:
1- You can only earn channel points on two streams at a time.
2- Twitch likely doesn’t count your view if the tab is backgrounded, muted, or inactive for too long.
Despite this, Twitch provides no feedback to the user. There’s no indication which streams are earning points, and no clarification when they’re not contributing anything at all.
The result is that users keep extra tabs open expecting benefits that don’t exist. Twitch wastes bandwidth and compute power serving invisible views. Viewers get frustrated when points don’t accrue and streams fall minutes out of sync.
The fix is simple. Add a visible indicator on each stream (icon, badge, or toast) showing whether it’s currently earning channel points. If a viewer opens more than two streams, display a friendly reminder of the active tab limit and explain that inactive tabs may not count as real views.
This reduces unnecessary strain on the platform from users pulling up dozens of tabs at a time and puts control back in the hands of viewers without punishing anyone or relying on hidden throttling to deprioritize inactive tabs. Transparency saves everyone time, money, and frustration.
